This is excellent captaincy from Kumble (the declaration) ... this ensures our players are switched on for 80 overs and desperately looking for ways to get wickets. We have made a real game out of this, and win, lose(unlikely but possible) or draw ... we will benefit much more as a team from this than simply meandering out for a draw.

Then again, that was a spectacular innings by Gordon Greenidge, one of the all time great knocks. Pakistan have nobody in their side IMO capable of doing anything similar. As far as this target though - there's a small risk taken. But a necessary one. No complaints from me. If we can't defend 344 in 80 overs on such a slow, turning pitch, then there's something very wrong.
