BeautifulGame Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Duminy's stats are like 3,777 runs from 137 matches with an average of nearly 40 (39.75) - Impressive numbers from the outset. But look at it closer. If one eliminated the associates, Zim and Ban the resultant stats look like 109 matches, 2623 runs @ 31.60 - A shocking decrease of nearly 9 points by eliminating just 28 matches. Remove the lowest placed full member, WI from that, and the average further plummets to 28.69. Same goes for Dave Miller as well. Averaging about 38 overall. But removing associates and Zim, the average plummets to 31.65. Remove WI and the average is an Afridiesque 26.3 And both of them make the XI as regular batsman :hysterical: SA  Its basically a three man team, AB, Amla and Steyn. Some days Morkel turns up as well. And they call this team the favorites to win the World cup. Faf is their best player under pressure .He is more likely turn up than ABV or Amla if DA are to win a K-O match
Precambrian Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Even Raina have slimier stats in this WC. When whole time failed you cant pick 1 or 2 players. By teh way SA should ahve lost the match against Zim if not for Miller & Duminy. You have to thank them atleast pushing SA till QF :hysterical: Sir, there is a thing called pedigree, Raina has showed his class and mettle under pressure umpteen times before, and most importantly in a WC quarter final match where India were all but out against the then defending champions. Didn't he? Show me one such match where a SA has played in a must win match in the WC!
bulbul Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Faf is their best player under pressure .He is more likely turn up than ABV or Amla if DA are to win a K-O match Based on today no gurantee

BlueBee Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Before the Tournament, I really thought this might be their WC. But Lol, they never fail to Choke.
BeautifulGame Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I don't know how them thrashing a hapless Windies at home made them favorites. They are looking quite a bit unsettled. Just 2 good batsmen in this tournament which is precisely a show of batting strengths. Its horribly similar to us thrashing WI and Srl and going over confident into the 2007 WC Tough cricket against stronger opposition is much better preparation even if u lose before WC .In case we played NZL in NZL before 03 and SA in SA before 2011
vvvslaxman Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Sir' date=' there is a thing called pedigree, Raina has showed his class and mettle under pressure umpteen times before, and most importantly in a WC quarter final match where India were all but out against the then defending champions. Precambrian Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Faf is their best player under pressure .He is more likely turn up than ABV or Amla if DA are to win a K-O match "Likely" doesn't translate to "Is", until he performs. Faf didn't turn up in both Pak and Ind matches, THE matches to win in the group. Again, applying same filters as in case of Duminy and Miller, Faf's average falls from a respectable 35.55 to 31 against the top 7 teams in the world. No way near the standards expected out of a no.3 of apparently the world's best ODI team. ha ha.

[b']Didn't he? Show me one such match where a SA has played in a must win match in the WC! Same thing i am saying, whole SA team for years struggled to win in WC, then how can you just select 2 people and give example. At least these 2 got a win when team was under pressure. After these defeats you are laughing at SA,but i have said before as well SA is not a balanced team + choking history says they are not favorite side.

Faf already did it in the T20 WC in 2014 under pressure .And he was their top scorer against India @ MCG What has De Villiers or Amla done to say they can perform under pressure ? De Villiers has played 4 K-O matches in world cups (including T20) and flopped in all of them .
Precambrian Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 SA batting averages (top 7) against the teams that matter Amla - 54.34 De Kock - 37.63 Du Plessis - 31 Ab - 54.9 Rossow - 34 Miller - 31.65 Duminy - 31.6

These things happen this is just choke and good bowling by Pak.

Anyone can be a hero with a few slogs in a T20 match. Top scorer against Ind is fine - but did it contribute in any manner to a win? As to ABDV and Amla's ability to "perform under pressure" - I agree, there is no evidence till now - but at least we need to give some respect to their career numbers - they are simply too monstrous to discard them completely. What SA lacks and India have in plenty are big game players.

Precambrian Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 SA should have won the match if some of these players scored as per their Average score. These things happen this is just choke and good bowling by Pak. That's why I said they are too dependent on Amla and ABDV to prosper. I am not saying averages are everything, but having three key batsmen averaging 30-31 doesn't exactly make a world beater team really. This is precisely why I said its a three man team basically, if the big 3 clicks, SA win more or less, but if they don't the others hardly step up (and no please don't bring Zimbabwe/Ireland matches here).

Precambrian Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Ireland match doesnt matter..but Zim match does matter' date=' If SA lost that they should ahve in deep trouble now.[/quote'] All I am saying here is performing against Zim cannot justify flopping utterly against WI/Pak/Ind - esp the latter two and when the pressure was immense. Against Zim they were batting first as well.
vvvslaxman Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Pakistan is a team that is still stuck in the 1980s when it comes to scoring runs in the first 15 overs. But ABDV helped them hugely by tossing the ball to himself and part timer Duminy. Younis Khan is a certified failure agianst short ball these days. He really allowed them to pile up runs up the order which kinda made the difference. He should have continued attacking until they reach a stage like 70 runs in 20 overs Then you could have taken control of the game.

Wow,didn't know that.those stats are seriously skewed, just like nohit's if we remove the minnows and Windies.but I have seen jpd playing some good innings under pressure ,in deciders,he's all right.but the problem is miller, russouw,de kock who are too impatient and struggle a lot against quality attacks, even faf hasn't done anything in one dayers
