thongale Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Viv have a great reacord, but only blemish in his repatoire is that he was weak against high quality spin, and world had only two reasonable spinners by then, Qadir and Underwood. These two did particularly well against Viv. Cannot think what Muarli, Saqlain, Warne, Kumble and Mushtaq would have done to his run scoring spree. Viv played most of his career before reverse swing started to happen at it's very best, early 90s, that is with the rise of Wasim and Waqar.

Other thing to remember he did face ATG fast bowlers of his era with aplomb including famous spin quartet of India.Defending for the sake of it. Which ATG bowlers are you talking about the spin quartet did zilch in ODIs. The quality of attack Sachin faced were light years better than the ones Viv faced.
thongale Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Viv probably faced better fast bowlers than Sachin. He faced Imran, Wasim, Thommo, Lillee and Hadlee. Five ATG bowlers. Sachin faced MacGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Brett Lee, Bond, Donald and Pollock. Perhaps Steyn. He did not play much of Pakistan pace trio at their height of their powers. Viv was much more devastating on fast bowlers than Sachin and Viv's SR has dropped only because he struggled against quality spin bowling.

Overwhelming majority of Indians think Akram best fast bowler in any format of the game...their opinion. Most Pakistanis would rather drink poison than admit Sachin is the greatest batsman to come out of the subcontinent. Many Pakistanis think Mindad and Inzy were better.

All have had equal impacts on Odis. Some poster was mocking gilhrists inclusion, he has performed in every final again. I think viv would win this though..
