Malcolm Merlyn Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 New Delhi: So what if Team India have stormed into the quarter-finals of the World Cup under the guidance of Duncan Fletcher, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already started searching for a new coach. Making it clear that they wouldn’t continue the services of the Zimbabwean coach after the World Cup, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur has also admitted that the Board is still not clear about the future of Ravi Shastri as the team director. In an interview with The Times of India, the secretary has admitted that it’s time to move ahead. “We have to look for a new coach after the World Cup. As far as Shastri is concerned, the BCCI is not sure whether he will continue. The Board will have a talk with him before deciding the future course of action,” Thakur was quoted as saying by the newspaper. Fletcher's contract was extended by the BCCI till the World Cup, and now they have decided to get some one else in place of Fletcher. With the World Cup going on, there is a gag order on the players and the media covering the Indian team too have huge restrictions to follow, but Thakur has assured that things would change for the better. “Till the World Cup, we are not going to change anything. We will look into the matter and if need be, change certain regulations,” he said, adding that the Board is always ready to help the media personnel work better. “For BCCI, the role of media is important, but we are also committed to keep controversy out of the game,” he told the newspaper. Last week, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shahryar Khan met Thakur to discuss about renewing the India-Pakistan series and Thakur says it’s too early to take a call on that. “It depends on the relationship between the two countries and a lot will depend on government’s directive,” he admitted. I can understand specialist coaches like batting/fielding/bowling coaches who helps people to iron out chinks in their armour but a head coach? Nah, am more inclined to having someone like Shastri as team mentor/manager who provides overall guidance. Especially we would need one when Dhoni is gone, for Virat is still raw. Kirsten was more of a manager than a coach in my opinion, so was Wright. But Chappelli was more in the coaching mould, imposing his views upon even bigger players than him like Tendulkar and backfired spectacularly. Also should look at Praveen Amre as batting coach for our team. The dude has worked wonders on many domestic cricketers of late.

Sunnyji any chance of Sehwag to be back in tests , since Dhoni is gone now.Also Yuvraj and Irfan Pathan in ODIs.

Eventhough Fletcher wants them to win WC, the players dont care and will do whatever, except the self motivated ones. Basically they should have waited till WC is over before leaking this news to the media.
