But partnering with certain apps like Netflix in the US and Flipkart in India doesn't hit the wallets of the consumers' date= it's the partner apps that pay the ISPs. So why is it so important for allowing all kinds of net traffic to be treated equally? Are there any compelling reasons? Two problems - (1) Airtel decides which apps get to go on their platform - conflict of interest (2) Airtel could hold Flipkart to a ransom and ask them for more money which Flipkart would pass on to the consumers. The deal between Airtel-Flipkart would be hidden and translucent; no reason to trust either Airtel or Flipkart to act in consumers best interest out of altruism .

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad is already in its favor so I doubt telecom companies or TRAI can crew around with customers or spring a surprise at the last moment. 417233 mails as of now. In touch with the Save Internet guys regularly, they are doing an awesome job and working hard on it day/night. RS Parasad's favor of "net neutrality" is just a platitude - we don't know yet what RS Prasad calls Net Neutrality is the same NN we are proposing. Politicians play with words very easily. NaMo central CEO has even made BS arguments against NN. Check it out.

Crowdsourced to reduce their app ratings on the App store which led to 0.5 reduction of their average app store rating, uninstalled their apps, called their customer care etc.

Telcos putting a lot of pressure on govt though. Obviously it can still change but I do thing it will be maintained.

Bansal is still behaving like an a***** on Twitter and playing the "Indian company" victim card. Basically, Flipkart were forced their hand by the huge crowdsourced volunteer network that some of these SaveTheInternet guys built sparing every day/night of their time. These guys are working incredibly hard - I am not part of it. In addition, BJD MP - Tatagata Satpathy and Nikhil (Mediianama) are doing a lot of work for this. My earlier post was that Airtel is in no mood to drop this platform and government wants "free market" to decide.

RS Prasad talked the same lines as NaMo Central CEO - Digital "Inclusion" for India, poor people - hungry people. Overall, the government doesn't have any idea as they don't quite understand this issue well.

Mobile tariffs in India are among the lowest in the world. Also, the spectrum allocation pricing both during UPA and now NDA has been quite high leading to HUGE debt which means companies will have to increase tariffs soon. But companies don't seem to realize that Mobile Data is the future and its where their revenues would come from in the future. The more the customers use internet, the more they are getting addicted to various apps - and that's where biggest revenues will come from for telcos.
