ISLAMABAD: The groundbreaking ceremony of Aviation City and Air University Aerospace and Aviation Campus was held at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra on Thursday.

Aviation City would house various hi-tech and state of the art academic, research and development institutes which would pave way for achieving everlasting self reliance in the field of aviation industry.

At the heart of Aviation City lies the Air University Aerospace and Aviation Campus which has been modeled after the internationally acclaimed Aviation Universities in the world and it would focus hands-on learning in state-of-the-art maintenance & avionics repair facilities, and first class simulation centers.

An Aviation Research, Indigenization & Development (AvRID) would also be the part of aviation city which would primarily focus multi-disciplinary R&D in specific technologies.

Another important institute the Aviation Design Institute (AvDI), being part of this mega project, would utilize the growing R&D potential of PAF and focus capability enhancement of the existing PAF fleet.

This institute would also undertake the phase-wise designing, production and evaluation of fifth generation aircraft indigenously.

Pakistan and Russia agreed to the $153 million helicopter deal during then-Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif’s visit to Russia in June 2016. A preliminary contract was concluded at the Pakistan Army General Headquarters in Rawalpindi in August 2015. Pakistan military sources indicate that PAAC could purchase a total of 20 Mi-35 helicopters in the coming years. “Given the cost of building the necessary Mi-35M logistics and maintenance infrastructure, expanding the fleet beyond four aircraft would financially be a sound decision for the Pakistani military.

in all the hoopla I think a big piece of news has been missed.

Brahmos range has been extended to 450km.... test in march successful. I think its range should easily be increased to 800 km with Mach 10 possible. The key issue is mounting it on the MKI. If achieved that is a lethal combo.

this extended range of Brahmos coupled with higher speeds where it can be deployed via land sea and air had the ability to not only change fundamentally the indian pakistan dynamic. But also the Russia eastern europe dynamic. All those missile defence systems mean squad if a jet fires it and it achieves mach 10 speeds. In a cross country conflict within say the range of 800 km it becomes unstoppable.

With the Brahmos development it was initially all Russia. But India has now taken a lead in the project and it will be ironic if Russia equips their own Su-27 flankers or even upcoming Mig 35s with the Brahmos

Brahmos is based on P 800 Oniks which has a range of 600km.Brahmos's range was artificially suppressed to 290km as India was not part of MTCR.Since India became a member of MTCR they have started removing those artificial barriers and full 600km range will be revealed soon. This is why all older Brahmos will also become 600km in range.

I do believe the Oniks had an accuracy issue and was only a naval missile, aimed for hunting submarines. Yes i agree that range was artificially capped. the traditional Brahmos can carry a 300kg weapon the key question is that will the 800km Brahmos mounted on jets (if) how much payload can it carry

MKIs are being modified to carry 1 Brahmos. With 300kg payload.

The Brahmos is based on Oniks, its not the Oniks. The range was suppressed using software limitation and by reducing the fuel capacity or the fuel tank by compartmentalising it.

If J20 be as capable as hyped or even anywhere ready China wont be ordering SU 35s.

sorry but you are seriously underestimating the chinese tech in Aerosapce. need to read some US military experts and articles about  J-20. becoz US isnt underestimating the J-20.

Su-35s were ordered becoz of its known platform of Su-30 mkk, and is in the category of 4.5+  Gen.

J-20 is still needed to be produced and deployed in first full batch, it will take couple of years for them to deployed the first full batch of J-20.

just saying..

maybe JV with china for J-31, or Turkish TFX, or maybe something new. dont know yet.

but PAF is surely looking ahead for the next 5th Gen aircraft after the the completion of the JF-17 project.

theres a news that chinese and turks are looking for JV partner in 5th Gen project.

China is intrested in J-31 project for PLAN.

why re-invent the wheel if its already invented ? even if we dont manufacture a car or bike at home, that doesnt mean we cant do something big, thats why we need to do R&D and all.

its down to ability, simple to do r&d and manufacture 5th gen fighters for sure.
