Mr. Wicket
Poor footwork, late movement to anything down the leg side, and a number of clumsy takes. It's not the easiest track to keep on (and Ishant's sprayed a few), but 25 byes at this stage (almost twice what Akmal conceded, and in much less time) is very poor. This series has been a major step backwards for him. He's been exposed against pace with the bat, and when he's gone back to his old role of keeping, has shown that his efforts to focus on his batting in the last couple of years have really taken their toll on his keeping, to the point that I wouldn't want him as a standby keeper for Dhoni. Agreed! What a disappointing effort from him! However, it is quite difficult to learn to field at other places as well as keep on your wicket-keeping skills intact! I think we've ruined yet another talent by telling him to do things he is not used to and in the process make him lose the skills that he possesses! Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
*we* didn't tell him to do things he wasn't used to. Karthik, from what I understand, decided to try and turn himself into a player capable of holding down a place as a specialist batsman when he lost his spot to Dhoni. He focused more on opening for TN and being a bat first and a keeper second, alternated that with being an in-ring fielder and now we have a Jack of All Trades in our lineup. Mediocre keeper, average batsman, unreliable fielder. Link to comment
donkey
he didnt even appeal convincingly on many occasions..he is low on confidence it seems....another parthiv in the making?? Link to comment
Cricketics
on the other hand.. if u see.. dhoni was a very medicore wicket keeper.. may be not as better as karthik.. and he has raised his standard of wicket keepig.. now one of the best perhapz.. Link to comment
Guest HariSampath
very poor batting, he has been exposed totally even by this mediocre Pak bowling on slow low pitches. Very poor keeping, and although the ball kept low a few times, he must have known that and adopted a different keeping technique. he just letting the ball THROUGH his lega and low bounce is not an excuse for that. Leg side keeping also is very poor and this aill prove very costly whenever Bhajji or Kumble gets the batsmen overbalanced and beat them on the leg side for stumpings. Lets not forget he is a poor catcher who dropped plenty as a fielder. A bad keeper affects the team in many ways. Bowlers esp spinners lose confidence, batsmen use footwork more and bowlers don't experiment enough. Also keeper has to get the team going and when his performance is poor, he is unable to do this task and also when keeping badly pressure is on keeper , so he doesn't notice small mistakes batsmen make. Today Karthik didn't even appeal when there was an inside edge from Misbah. so lost he is. KKD will certainly be dropped from the Indian team in all forms of the game, as he deserves to be. He will be out for at least 2-3 series, and Parthiv should be brought in Link to comment

Dhoni's done it very well against the hardest bowlers to keep to, like Kumble. he just letting the ball THROUGH his lega and low bounce is not an excuse for that. As I said, terrible footwork behind the stumps. Lets not forget he is a poor catcher who dropped plenty as a fielder. Indeed. While he may be energetic and dive and save a few runs that way, he's cost plenty more with his inconsistent catching. Link to comment
MundaPakistani
How can you folks blame the keeper? The ball was keeping about as low as it possibly could Link to comment

The ball was keeping about as low as it possibly could agree it might have been terrible for the keeper and pretty uneven.. but then he did it continuously.. i mean come on.. u gotta stop atleast once or twice.. he was missing everything. also some deliveries of Ishant.. which weren't really to far to get hold of. he gave those away for 4 byes.. coffee_rules
More than technique, he is short on practice. He has been focussing himself as an opener/or a #7 batsman. But he is awfully short on practice, esp wkt-keeping. I think if he is in the team, he should now be thinking or slotting himself for a second-keeper as well, whenever Dhoni is rested. Against minnow nations and dead rubbers, Dhoni can be given much needed rest. Link to comment
Ram
On the contrary, I think he kept quite well. He looked quite assured. And its just nonsense to compare Akmal's first innings performance and Karthik's. Karthik has had to contend with two spinners, with one of them being Anil Kumble, arguably the toughest bowler to keep to. If somebody wants to criticize karthik's keeping yesterday, it is totally unjustified. Link to comment
guju24
i thin its time for parthiv to give chance...now BCCI has to be hard with player's performance...if they dont perform one series...just dropp them and give some one else chance...karthik didnt anything in this series...no doubt that he was the highest scorer on england tour but then he needs to continue that form...its ok for not performing in one game but these are three in a row...so now time for him to get dropped... Ram
Anybody else notice a pattern with Sriram's posts? I was quite sure People will accuse me of playing favorite here. And it has happened, and i can understand that. I have faith in Karthik's abilities, I will back him to the hilt. In that process, if i am accused of being biased, so be it. Fact of the matter is, its very easy to pass judgements around when a player is down, but takes a lot of courage to stick with your stance through some torrid times. And just in case people missed it, I have said that Karthik will have my unconditional support till the end of this series, after which i shall modify my stance, vis-a-vis his batting. Now that i have seen him bat for 3 tests, and seeing the type of form other batsman are in, I feel that he doesnt deserve a place in the test team anymore. But his keeping is alright, this is a tough pitch and we have 2 spinners. Link to comment
