But do the slums have toilets? I guess very few, overcrowded and no running water makes it so filthy !!![/quote'] sanitation is an issue. I will admit it. Running water is not an issue and neither is electricity. There are pipes running through there which people illegally tap and the same is the case with electricity. But there is a lack of toilets and sanitation infra.

veer Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 What is the use when a huge chunk of the population lives in slums, undenourished,filthy,no running water, 1 toilet seat for 500 people etc. :(( Never have I seen as much inequality in India as in Mumbai, on one hand you have the amazing skyline and on the other hand is a sh!thole. So you dont want to change anything? I've been living in USA for 15+ years but visit Mumbai almost every year. The problem is population.. and fewer number of modern / employable cities in India. Continuous influx of people in Mumbai is beyond sustainable..Mumbai can not afford more and more people coming into cities for employment. Mumbai will break down soon or some natural calamity will do its part to keep things in balance. MNS or Shiv Sena are anti migration and all and to certain extent they are not wrong.. Solution is to create few more modern cities for dispersed migration..
G_B_ Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 mumbai's geography does not help either. it cannot expand in all directions owing to the sea. It was a city for 5 million people max. To certain extent Indian railways are to blame for his mess. There needed to be heavy expansion Navi mumbai side. Sadly transport links just did not develop.
kubrickian Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 There are areas of Mumbai which are super cool and areas which are crap, similar to all big cities in India but overall, Delhi and Chandigarh seem to be the best cities in India and that's solely going by what I've heard because I havent been there. India needs to invest lot more in Tier 2, Tier 3 cities as the metros are already oversaturated and poorly planned. Improving infrastructure and building mass transport in metros is necessary but it will only be like polishing a turd. Tier 2, Tier 3 cities are the future.

And yes' date=' I have lived there for more than 3 years.[/quote'] Did u move back to Delhi? or other city I never visited Bombay from 2002-2012 , then was there in 2012, 13, 14 ( we spoke in '12 ) I think I fit the typical "dhobi ka kutta..". I hated it, I was like WTF is this? garbage hot etc But when I am back here, I miss it - I still wish I will go and settle back if I win the lotto, or 2nd best where most of my community, friends, and cousins are - Dubai :icflove: Very Very close 2nd is NYC - never get tired of that boss place
