Facebook removes article by former Indian high commissioner questioning the PM  :

New Delhi, Nov. 19: Links to a former Indian envoy's write-up questioning Narendra Modi's claim of being "welcomed with great respect" in Britain in 2003 went missing on Facebook for "more than 24 hours" before being restored.

At a London news conference attended by the Prime Minister last week, a question was asked about his being purportedly prevented from visiting Britain until recently because of the 2002 violence in Gujarat.

Modi replied that he wanted to "keep the record straight" - he had visited the UK in 2003 "and was welcomed with great respect" but could not visit again until this year owing to "time constraints".

Satyabrata Pal, former Indian high commissioner to Pakistan, was deputy high commissioner in London in 2003. He has written an article on the news website thewire.in, where he says Modi's 2003 trip had come against the wishes of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the British government.

Facebook displayed a number of messages when people tried to post the article or open the link from comments on the posts. The messages either said the link was unsafe or that it was abusive.

Facebook issued a cryptic apology today, saying: "The content was mistakenly captured by our spam filter and has now been restored. We are sorry for the error and inconvenience caused.

The PM : "keep the record straight”, he had never been banned from visiting the UK, he had been received warmly and with respect in 2003, and had not been able to visit again as CM because he was busy."

Ex-Deputy High Commissioner to the UK  : "That reply reminded me of a report to the National Human Rights Commission on a man who had been choked to death in custody; the police said that he had died of breathing difficulties, which of course was not untrue."

..in March, 2005, when the chief minister planned another visit, again invited by Hindu groups. This time the British government was even more insistent, to the point of being adamant, that he should not come, not least because they feared that the application for a warrant, which had failed on a technicality in 2003, would succeed, setting off a horrible diplomatic crisis.

The UPA government, not beholden to the voices which had prevailed in 2003, told Mr. Modi in very clear terms that he was on his own if he ignored the advice not to go. Very prudently, he called his trip off.

He's touring a lot... He does suffers from travel bug... There are certain tours which he can delegate to others but it seems he has been craving a lot to become a World NRI Leader...

It would be better to also meet poor people in India, at least for photo Ops, just to deny Opposition an opportunity to create a perception.... He's loving it and he doesn't cares what perceptions he's is creating. It seems he's pretty confident of a second term but public in India do vote on perceptions...

You make it sound like opponent are saying the right thing, they aren't there to give right advice to Modi. Modi foreign trips are getting benefits to the country, and among them, MSM are not getting any exclusive rights which they received under MSM government.

And you will be surprised by how much time MSM spend on foreign trips and money, so do the comparison first. On the perception matter, such things are only short terms and changes frequently. Modi is leading the country well and you should be proud of it actually.

What I'm saying is that he needs to balance his governance. He can fly around every other month, no problem but it would be good to sometimes, take time off and visit the grass root level and meet people... At least for the sake of photo ops, if can't do anything more... What opposition is saying doesn't matter, but shouldn't lose the perception battle...

^^^^ And what tells you he doesn't meet with local people? The opposition? Well, if you take their words seriously, then India is intolerant, Tipu Sultan was great being, Memom was innocent, and so many other things.

Perception is a short issue and changes frequently with time. What matters is both good and bad things are equally well-noted. Modi has been leading the nation well and that's should be praised.

There is time for 2019. But Foreign trips are important right now as China is bit down. Also just sending foreign minister will not work as other leaders want assurance from Top guy.
