At least 10 people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, a doctor has told the BBC. The emergency doctor at Qatif Central Hospital said at least 70 had been injured, "some very critically". Witnesses reported a huge blast at the Imam Ali mosque in the village of al-Qadeeh, in Qatif governorate. It is the first such incident in Saudi Arabia amid rising tension in the wider region between Sunni and Shia Muslims. It is unclear who was behind the attack.
Some source are putting casualty numbers to more than 30 . RIP to the departed :(( These attacks on Shias have spread a lot recently. We recently had 40 Shias massacred in Karachi and now this. Where is the world heading to :((

Overall too, India would be one of the safest place (having significant population) for Muslims on the earth. Any Idea, what percentage of Indian muslim population are Shias?

India is home to around 175 million people of Islamic faith. Although the majority of the country's Islamic population are Sunni, Shia Muslims are estimated to make up between 40 million and 50 million.Jun 27, 2014

I think its close to 20%. Muharram is celebrated as big as any other festival in north Indian cities, in which I think sunnis strictly don't participate.

I don't think Muharram is a "festival". It is actually a day of mourning where Shias hurt themselves with whips and other stuff in remembrance of one of their Imams who was killed in Karbala...This practice is their way of saying sorry to their Imam that they could not save him on that day. This is from my limited knowledge. Others can correct me.

There has been no particular census conducted in India with regards to sects, but Indian sources claimed the Shia population in mid 2005–2006 was between 25% and 31% of the entire Muslim population of India which accounts them in numbers between 40,000,000 to 50,000,000 plus of the 157 million Indian Muslim ... A rough estimate puts the Shia population of Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir state at around one million, 10 percent of the total population. Shias are a majority in the northern areas of Gilgit-Baltistan currently under Pakistani federal control. Ninety- eight percent in Baltistan and 60 percent in Gilgit and adjoining areas are Shia even though successive governments in Islamabad have attempted to alter the demographic composition of the region to suit their long term political interests. In Jammu and Kashmir, the community is chiefly concentrated in Srinagar, central district of Budgam, Baramulla, parts of Bandipur and Ladakh region. Very few Shia Muslim habitations can be found in southern parts of Kashmir and they virtually do not exist in the Chinab valley where as in other frontier and mountainous belts situated on the approach roads to Kashmir, the community was virtually decimated by the marauding Moghal and Pathan invaders during 16th -18th century. http://www.kashmirobserver.net/news/features/shias-kashmir-socio-political-dilemmas
