Tiger80 Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 Sorry I might have missed but where does it say destroy the religion? Their representatives are coming on Debates and openly saying that Ambedkar said that Hinduism should be destroyed and they are supporting it
seedhi Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 IITM allows political discussions and has recognized the student group which has been a political discussion group. So unless the dean explains how they the particular session/speech is inflammatory how have they have violated the IIT codes? What are all rules were violated by the students group, What's the finding of enquiry. Any parameters the institution has to determine violation.Nothing made known to the Student group.Just send a mail derecognizing them without even seeking explanation. Is this how they sack in UK if u dont follow their protocol. Surely u can see why this has been criticised so much? Regardless of what Dean has achieved in his career ,the freedom of expression is defined by the constitution. He should have the responsibility to explain how that speech is inflammatory. What u are saying would have been agreeable if IIT has banned any political speeches which it hasnt In IITM all the student discussion forums are routed through their respective faculties not through Dean unless specified P.S How do we know the students were harassed. Has the dean or any other students made any specific allegations? That is a laughable interpretation of the constitution, it does NOT empower the students of any IIT (or any institute for that matter) to use the institute's resources for their political speech. Furthermore, you are confusing the decisions of the IIT administration to some court of law with hearings etc. The Dean has the discretionary power to suspend/de-recognise the student group till a final decision on its suspension is arrived at. In this case, if you read the pamphlet you can see that it explicitly calls for the destruction of Hinduism. That is more than enough for the administration to suspend the student group.
Ras Al Ghul Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Leftist hypocrisy always surprise me. Today a Dalit professor was saying on ZEE TV that Smriti Irani should come to Tamil nadu and say something against Periyar and nobody could save not even Jayalalitha and then these people talk about freedom of speech. Freedom of speech mean 1 person is free to say that Hinduism should be destroyed the 2nd say that Islam should be destroyed and 3rd say that Periyar or Ambedkar Ideology should be destroyed and none of group engage in voilence . None of these groups support freedom of speech These people talk too much.Dalits should look to uplift themselves rather than look to destroy someone else. And Freedom of Speech is only for anti Hinduism statements. Their representatives are coming on Debates and openly saying that Ambedkar said that Hinduism should be destroyed and they are supporting it That too inside the IIT-M auditorium.
seedhi Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Sorry I might have missed but where does it say destroy the religion?Read this pamphlet http://i0.wp.com/128.199.141.55/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/10868081_387461018103712_451650232760166864_n.jpg It mentions that Hinduism is a veritable chamber of horrors and it must die and explicitly calls for the annihilation of Hinduism. There is no way any IIT will ever allow such pamphlets to be put up on its campus.
gattaca Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Read this pamphlet http://i0.wp.com/128.199.141.55/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/10868081_387461018103712_451650232760166864_n.jpg It mentions that Hinduism is a veritable chamber of horrors and it must die and explicitly calls for the annihilation of Hinduism. How people here defending them go against in a split of second.
amiret Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Sorry I might have missed but where does it say destroy the religion? link It does contain the following : "Ambedkar proposed to annihilate the caste system by DESTROYING hinduism " they are paraphrasing from Dr.Ambedkar's quote "You must destroy the religion of sruti's and smriti's . Nothing else will avail." After this quote , Dr. Ambedkar proceeds to explain what he means by destruction of religion . From the book Annhilation or Caste . LINK

LINKDoesn't matter whose quote it is, it is inflammatory and cannot be distributed as a pamphlet on the campus of IIT as part of political propaganda. Just like anti-Jew verses from the Koran or anti-Dalit material from Manusmirti cannot be distributed on the IIT campus.
seedhi Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I am actually amazed that some people have invoked the freedom of speech argument. This (India) is a country where the movie Da Vinci code was banned (lol) and cases were filed against some authors who merely read a few lines from Satanic Verses publicly. What freedom of speech?
G_B_ Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Leftist hypocrisy always surprise me. None of these groups support freedom of speech she should go there just to make a point. Its not just this case. There is a big rise in Periyar supporters (not all) using violence to justify their stance. They want to be vocal then its time to respond in kind. The truth is there seems to be a big effort from what i can tell to stop the expansion of the BJP within the state. Ie they want to nip this in the bud before the BJP can command a significant chunk of the vote. (this is my interpretation) and be a major part of any alliance.
surajmal Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Periyar buttsniffers spew bile and when get docked for such chewtiyagiri, claim discrimination. Who does this remind you off? It is as if all the chewtiya parade gets brainwashed in the same assembly line. or maybe it is less about the hue of their chewtiyagiri and simply that they are chewtiyas. Their double digit IQs are proof enough that without the aid of institutionalized discrimination such as reservations, the best they could do is janitorial work. Oh and hyphening Ambedkar with a psychopath as if they were chaddi buddies? How much you wanna bet if one were to ask Ambedkar about his views on Periyar, he would go, "Who Dat? "
Gollum Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 'Destroy Hinduism' posters? I challenge anybody in India to make 'Destroy Christianity' or 'Destroy Islam' posters and come out of it alive. Bashing Hinduism is a sign of intellectualism in modern day India, abuse Hinduism, abuse Hindus, mock Hindus and yet walk away unscathed. Hindus are the most persecuted people in this country, not the minorities and the day isn't far away when this explodes. And who is Periyar? The imbecile lunatic hater who asked people to destroy Hindu idols/temples and kill Brahmins? How stupid are his followers who buy the **** he propagated? Feel bad for average Tamils who have to share space with these rats.

I assume u r referring to the assassination of BJP leaders in the past ? If so u are mixing it with some Muslim extremists All the so called new Periyar organisations are thugs but aren't any different from the so called right wing organizations cropping up every where .All these people indulge in violence and controversy to grab limelight . http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-crude-bombs-hurled-at-tamil-tv-channel-s-office-2068116 And Smiti Irani will not dare to attack Periyar in TN coz that will amount to unnecessary political suicide for BJP here .Not becoz of any violence threat .

When the HRD ministry forwards anonymous letters seeking explanation and then a student organization is banned hurriedly without even seeking explanation it creates doubt over the so called processIf you cared to read the press release by IITM - the group has been temporarily de-recognized pending a hearing from the student's body, as is normal procedure. You are assuming that IIT administration functions like a court of law, which is absurd, otherwise professors will have to file affidavits while awarding grades (lol). The Dean has the right to decide based on prima facie evidence that the group can be suspended pending the outcome of the said hearing.
BeautifulGame Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I am sorry but no way any educational institute is going to endorse this document. You might ask why not - what is so inflammatory about what is being said - what rules and guidelines weren't followed. The simple answer is the institute has no business endorsing this document. Do you even realize the magnitude of whats been written? Might as well have all the IITs' date= IIMs and the RECs bring out full page adverts in the national dailies with their stamp of approval on this - such a precisely worded document - I find quite ridiculous to be honest. K I will rephrase it. Where has the Dean or IIM body said the phrases of Ambedkar or Periyar in Pamphlet inflammatory .Please provide the link maybe I have missed it . The student organization is alleging that they r derecognized becoz of criticising central govt policies ..And the decision is taken very hastily after the IITM received an anonymous letter forwarded by HRD ministry

The Outsider Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Hope India wakes up in time before it is too late. These are dangerous signals. Development even if it happens as promised can not be at the cost of democracy. Doesn't seem to be close to waking up. The students had taken permission from their faculty adviser as was the norm. If anything action should be taken against the faculty adviser instead of stifling the content. Nothing more can be expected from the manuwaadi nut cases in power but what is surprising is the majoritarian attitude creeping into the society and refusing to go away.
