putrevus Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Playing county cricket does not harm any upcoming cricketer who will serve his country for long time and also county cricket is not a year long commitment.extending career just to acheive some stat and then retiring as soon as that is acheived is nothing but selfish. There is a beauty in some stats like 99.94 rather than 100.00.

At least there the onus is on the selectors to drop the non-performing player. Actually Sanga is in the form of his life and can very well carry on until it runs out. My point is how can you pick and choose which match to play within a series? Doesn't that look horribly vain? Maybe he could've announced retirement after the whole series vs pak. Perhaps the subcontinent mentality is to be blamed, where it is considered ok for the star player to be calling all the shots.

Sanga wanted to retire from all formats after WC 2015 but SL selectors & team management forced him to continue. Did you see how uninterested he has looked against Pakistan this whole series? Just doesn't look like he wants to continue. SLCB has never treated it's players well unlike BCCI, must have taken a huge toll on Sanga all these years. They might be emotionally blackmailing him to play a couple of tests here and there before he retires, they need to milk the cash cow in the name of farewell series for their greatest batsman ever.

When the stature of player grows so big ,it is no longer in selectors hands.It is totally up to that legend to make his mind up and think about the value he is adding to the team in short term and long term. Other than Australia, I don't think any team has selectors to kick great players out.They also have told players to take retirement and did not kick them out. I agree they have to either play whole series or sit out completely , it is a joke that they are picking matches in series. Murali started this nonsense when he retired.

I cannot recall when Sanga did anything like that. Dilshan did it once, but such things only butthurts for certain players who look for personal milestones rather than team victory.

Sanga was one cricketer I loved but during Sennanayke, and atleast 10 other episodes found him not to be sporting ,same thing with Thirumanne and other guys who tried to be sneaky
