Contribution of Indians in Bangladesh's rise

Bangladesh's cricket is where it is for contribution of a lot of people but a few Indians played ig roles. 1. Raman Lamba - He used to play club cricket in Dhaka throughout the early and mid 90s. He used to smash all kinds of records but he was one of the first international cricketers to play in Bangladesh's domestic cricket regularly and the exposure that Bangladesh's cricketers got playing with him was quite important in the initial development of our cricket. Sadly he died in Bangladesh playing cricket. 2. Jagmohan Dalmiya - This man literally gave Bangladesh the test status. Though it was premature and was done to make the Asian vote bank bigger, it changed cricket in Bangladesh. Suddenly cricket replaced football s the number one sport like the rest of the subcontinent. As a bengali he has a soft corner towards Bangladesh and he replacing Srini as BCCI president has greatly imrorved BCCI and BCB relations. 3. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) - After Bangladesh gained test status, this Indian state body has been the only one cooperating with BCB in several development programs. Bangladesh U-13, U-15 and u-17 all play longer version cricket with CAB age group teams at home and away regularly over the last decade and half. All the current Bangladesh players have been brought up playing the CAB sides before they graduated to the u-19 team. These tours are very competitive, but I always wonder while Soumya, Taskin, Sabbirs have moved on to international cricket what happens to these CAB age level players they used to play with who were equally talented.

You are a class poster.:icflove: Age level tournaments(under CAB) in West Bengal aren't that popular. Most of the CAB run tournaments( at least till 2008, that's when I left the state) are 95 points, 110 points, 120 points etc. 1 kg=1 point and 1 inch=1 point. So if I am 5-10 and weigh 70 kgs I will be (70+70=140) 140 points. In that case I wouldn't qualify for any of the tournaments. I have seen kids starve themselves to gain entry into a lower points division so that their performances could be noticed by the scouts. Most of the Bengali cricketers as a result had stunted growth, no body mass, no personality and that affected their potential careers in the future. Also in these points based tournaments it was common to see a 20 year old(short height, low weight) battle it out with an 8 year old kid and the entire situation was comedy. Also it was hard on players with a good build, excess height, flab etc and they would miss out on many tournaments. Age group tourneys are the best, unlike other states CAB totally destroyed a few generation of cricketers and hopefully they have done away with that stupid system now.

1/ Not sure about Raman Lamba (may he rest in peace) in particular, but there are very many indian and pakistani cricketers who used to come and play regularly in our domestics. The smaller names used to play throughout the DPL (dhaka premier league) season and the bigger names used to come and play only in the crucial matches. I am talking about the 90's. 2/ Dalmiya has been the single most important person outside Bangladesh who has really helped our cricket. As you rightly pointed out, we owe our test status to two person (Saber hossain chowdhury and Mr Dalmiya) 3/ Beside CAB, we also regularly play age level cricket against the MPCA (madhyapradesh cricket association).

Also, Indian pacer Ranadeb Bose (don't think he played for India) had been involved in our National Cricket Academy from 2012 to 2014 and has played a role in the rise of Mustafizur, in terms of coaching him. Soumya has scored a century at the Eden Gardens with the BCB U-17 team.

I don't think it's as much as the rise of Bangladesh as it has been the decline of india, Pak and SL. A couple of bangladesh fast bowlers are world class, but I'm only going to say BD has come of age when it is competitive with teams outside the subcontinent. When is a Bang playing a test in eng or Aus? Would love to see their bowlers bowl in those countries.

More than that it's the decline in quality of domestic setup of these countries, which is failing to churn, competitive cricketers especially bowlers .
