Most laughable judgement! Probably judgement copy is sent by Amma's counsel! PPs are not allowed an hearing..When a small case take years , this is completed in few months! CBI should investigate this judge thoroughly, but knowing Modi congratulated Amma this is not gonna happen..

AIADMK in its present form with Amma is Hindu-lite. Its a moderately Hindu party. I would classify them as being centre right. I guess Amma has to weigh her options up. Go with the BJP and there is a good chance she will get her people in the central government elected to certain position of power. Most of the 37 currently are just rotting away. Go it alone and yes she will pick up minority votes. As per my calculations the BJP vote % in TN is about 5%. The AIADMK currently stands at about 45%. Lets assume that drops to 40% as a result of an alliance with the BJP due to minority voters dumping them. But the BJP+ AIADMK retain a vote share of about 45% combined. The tamil nadu parliament is 235 seats. There is no significance in AIADMK ruling with 150 seats or ruling with 180 seats. Both are comfortable majorities. Where they wont depend on anybody. In return they may have to give some token ministries to the BJP but the core ones she will keep. So the big question Amma has to weigh up is, am I strong enough to get a majority with the BJP which may cause my vote share to shink and still have a comfortable majority on my own in the TN assembly to not be dependent in the TN assembly on the BJP.

and as far as the BJP goes, they need to bargain for 35-40 seats and hope for either of the following (A) AIADMK+BJP win but AIADMK falls short of outright majority and is dependent on the BJP if not (B) AIADMK+ BJP totally sweeps the polls in such a way that when/if ties break with the AIADMK the BJP can still be the leader of opposition. I do believe this happened to the DMDK and it will be valuable in terms of making their leaders known to the masses. Most likely the combine to face the AIADMK in any form will be DMK+Manilla Congress+ DMDK+ (a series of small parties from the SC and minority communities plus commies) From what i understand its either alliance with the BJP or going it alone for AIADMK

That's the gamble Amma has to take .But not sure BJP has 5% vote share .They got 2% in 2011 when they fought alone .Even when they fought along side PMK and DMDK they still only got around 5%.A large no of them vote for them becoz they are the main alternative to both Dravidian parties .And then there is a % of people who voted for Modi in Lok Sabha who will switch for Amma in Assembly elections like they did with AAP Also pretty sure Minority vote share iAlso is around 10%. Yes only some power in Cent Govt ministries the only reason I see her going in a coalition with BJP.She hasn't had any ministers in Cent Govt since 1999.

BJP will not get 40 seats in a coalition. I am not sure about the vote share, it will be hardly 5%. Ever since BJP came to power, the tamil language magezines keep harping outright lies as in BJP is orchestrating communal riots every day all over India. They are dooing it too much so not sure how it will impact.

i would think she would rather go alone than add anybody else apart from the bjp. Only the bjp can offer her something. Central ministries. As you say yourself she has been out of government since 1999. Look at the GST, Amma voted against but BJP struck a deal with the Trinamool. Now obviously the Congress effectively blocked it. But it shows she can be on the wrong side of things. As far as my understanding goes, the minority votes in the 2011 assembly and 2014 lok sabha went 6% to the DMK alliance and 4% to the AIADMK alliance. Its fair to say with the BJP in the alliance the minority share will drop to about 2% from the 4% currently or effectively half. I think however the BJP are in a position in TN to bridge that gap. While there may not be an addition, there is not going to be a net loss either. @deto its 35-40 or the bjp walks IMO. The BJP does not need the AIADMK for its central government to survive and come 2016 (if the elections happen as scheduled) the number 1 focus is going to be Assam. TN is not a BJP priority. If they dont get those seats they will go it alone or in alliance with some minor parties and play the long game. Amma needs the BJP more in the grand scheme of things than the BJP needing amma. She needs the central funds for her projects and she needs the ministries. Granted 35-40 is high. But thats the price you pay when the BJP has 282 seats at the centre with enough buffer from other NDA allies.

Seems the congress have effectively told Amma. If she allies with the BJP their state government in Karnataka of the congress will appeal against her verdict in the supreme court. Looks like AIADMK will go it alone....doubt Amma will risk her future for some cabinet seats if this is the stance of the congress. The congress may not win much in TN but they have effectively blocked the BJP

That doesn't make sense Congress are going to make a decision in next cabinet meeting in a couple of weeks .At worst it might drag on for a month But for poll tie ups there is still 5-6 months time

i think it depends if "new evidence" comes to light you can file an appeal in a year. (i could be wrong need a legal export)

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Saturday looked set to rain on Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa's victory parade with its decision-makers moving towards filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against her acquittal in the corruption case which allowed her return to the high office. Sources said Karnataka has around three months to file the review, a reason why the Congress and the state government have not rushed into taking the decision despite the anxiety around. A move for judicial review is unlikely to please Jayalalithaa given that it would introduce fresh uncertainty in her politics which took off again on Saturday with her assuming the CM's post after a break of eight months. The implications of review are immense in the cut-throat coalition politics in which AIADMK, with a strong contingent of 37 MPs in Lok Sabha and 11 in Rajya Sabha, is a key player. A Congress bid to discomfit Jayalalithaa, given that the appeal is set to be seen as a political decision, would mean the opposition party would tie up with the DMK in state elections. Also, it could push AIADMK further close to the Modi regime; the ruling Tamil Nadu outfit has been positively disposed towards the BJP regime at the Centre. This would mean a big relief for the BJP since the Centre's lack of a majority in the Upper House is a hurdle in its bid to push through its legislative agenda. The Karnataka high court on May 12 overturned the trial court's conviction of Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case, discharging her and three others. The conviction had forced her to resign as CM and install a "caretaker CM". Sources said the Congress leadership discussed the issue with the state leadership and has moved definitively towards the view that filing a review was the justified course of action in Jayalalithaa's case. The opinion of legal experts and the state attorney has been crucial in arriving at the preliminary conclusion. Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah was in capital on Friday but the visit was for the wedding of the son of AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Jayalalithaa-sworn-in-Congress-plans-appeal-in-SC/articleshow/47401766.cms

I stand corrected...3 months it is. it also seems more than stopping the BJP the congress are playing this card v Jaya in order to form a coalition with the DMK. If an appeal is filed IMO the BJP too would stop from having an alliance with the AIADMK. Two birds one stone. Due to national implications. I dont think the BJP will enter an alliance with the ADMK but they will fight alone and be light towards the ADMK. Quite frankly considering the national implications its best if BJP steer clear from the AIADMK if an appeal is brought forward.

The Public prosecutor said there is no ground for an appeal in SC:haha: Amma will exert required 'pressure' to prevent other appeals. BJP would want to suck up to JAya now, so I doubt Swamy would go for appeal despite the usual soundbytes
Just wait and see macha...
Now what ? lol There was no way a congress govt will not go for appeal in SC .

Karnataka govt moves SC against acquittal of Jayalalithaa Karnataka govt moves SC against acquittal of Jayalalithaa http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Karnataka-govt-moves-SC-against-acquittal-of-Jayalalithaa/articleshow/47780471.cms

NEW DELHI: The Karnataka government on Tuesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa and three others, acquitted by the state high court in the disproportionate assets case. Filing the petition, the Karnataka government called Jayalalithaa's acquittal illegal and termed the high court verdict a 'farce. AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa was acquitted last month of all corruption charges in the 19-year-old Rs 66.65-crore disproportionate assets case. Justice C R Kumaraswamy had overturned the September 27, 2014 verdict of a special court in Bengaluru. The judge had also acquitted her associates - Sasikala Natarajan, her niece Ilavarasi, her nephew and the chief minister's disowned foster son Sudhakaran.
Pretty happy with this decision. She may be acuitted by supreme court as well but being a prosecution agency it's responsibility of govt. to make best efforts to get accussed convicted. Failing to do so is dereliction of duties by govt. Mods.. i did my best to search the thread that was created on acuittal of Jayalaitha but couldn't find. If some better brain could find that then you can merge this thread.
