zen Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 that's a valid question and I can see most of them are avoiding your question and running away from it. C'mon guys. Answer him. No sensible person will attempt to answer it as the answer could be extrapolated to brother-brother, father-daughter, mother-son, uncle-?, etc. No matter how liberal you are, at some point, you have to draw the red line. As laws, at times, can have the tendency to change behaviors. Over 1000s of years, we have built our social system that separates us from animals. Unfortunately, many people think everything is terms of linearity (the thread is a good example of it). They feel that if freedom is good, more of it must be even better. However, many things in life pattern the Laffar Curve as seen below: As I said, at some point, the red lines need to be drawn! Some people's interest have to be sacrificed for the overall good health of our society :top:
Crookbond Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Isn't it a genetic anomaly. Dont think we can compare being left handed to a bisexual or homosexual. Can you tell us what you mean when you say "genetic anomaly"? It seems to me that you want to say something and are picking the wrong words. PS - It's not gone unnoticed for me that you changed the word from disorder to anomaly.
The Outsider Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 that's a valid question and I can see most of them are avoiding your question and running away from it. C'mon guys. Answer him. Yes, incest between consenting adults should be okay from a legal perspective. The only caveat there is there should be a condition or clause which prohibits them from conceiving children because there is demonstrated scientific evidence that such children are many times more prone to genetic disorders. Also, there should be no sexual relationship between them till they are adults.

The Outsider Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Incest is not allowed in many countries :winky: So? It should be allowed in the form I suggested above. What consenting adults do in their private lives should be zero business of the state or anyone else.
zen Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 So? It should be allowed in the form I suggested above. If you think it is ok for the sons and daughters to grow up thinking that they can marry their parents, sons and daughters thinking that they can marry each other, father-mother thinking that when the child grows up, I will do this to them, you could root for such laws in the name of whatever I believe most people would prefer to have some order in their lives

Cases of child abuse still happen today and a law allowing incest will not override them.

Not having sexual contact and growing up thinking about it are different .... which "could" change our behaviors. And even a small percentage change can have a major impact on behavior of the society

zen Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Which is fine - society has never been a static monolith anyway. But it does not mean we move ahead in a negative way I guess we both agree that incest is not good. Your perspective is if adults chose to do so it is ok; my perspective it is if it is morally wrong (from a general perspective), we should enlighten those individuals and not promote something that they would regret doing

So, I don't agree that incest amongst consenting adults is bad unless it results in children.
zen Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 No. I don't view individual liberties as good or bad. So' date=' I don't agree that incest amongst consenting adults is bad unless it results in children.[/quote'] So you would be against the resulting children because it could create complications (see there is always a red line somewhere :P ) Similarly, for incest ....

Some might say euthanasia is moral, some might say is immoral. You are free to preach your morals, but leave it to the people to decide for themselves. Why prohibit incest by law?
The Outsider Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 So you would be against the resulting children because it could create complications (see there is always a red line somewhere :P ) Similarly, for incest .... There is demonstrated scientific evidence that incestuous procreation harms an individual involved in the process. There is no scientific evidence that an incestuous relationship between consenting adults harms any of the individuals involved. They might be harmed psychologically due to pressures of the society but fundamentally there is no scientific basis to prohibit such relationships.

Taken from a holistic PoV, that's good enough reason
The Outsider Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Taken from a holistic PoV' date=' that's good enough reason[/quote'] So the state should impose restrictions on inter caste and inter religious marriages because there is psychological pain involved?
zen Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 So the state should impose restrictions on inter caste and inter religious marriages because there is psychological pain involved? Really? Is there psychological pain involved in inter caste / religious marriages? I have not done a "scientific" study but I have seen many Pakistani women being married to White men, I have seen blacks being married to whites (salt n pepper) :P
rkt.india Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Can you tell us what you mean when you say "genetic anomaly"? It seems to me that you want to say something and are picking the wrong words. PS - It's not gone unnoticed for me that you changed the word from disorder to anomaly. I might have used wrong words, both anomaly and disorder might be wrong. I consider both homo and bisexuality are genetic traits but how does these genes develop. I am not sure about it scientifically but isn't it an anomaly that happened during gene development. Like some people are born with physical and mental anomalies. I would like to think this is also an anomaly people are born with due to some genetic alterations.
rkt.india Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 It's not a genetic anomaly or disorder, because if so, natural selection would have got rid of it long ago. I guess it can be called as a genetic trait or a genotype. but people are born with different disorders or anomalies, physical and mental, which natural selection has not got rid of. Genetic development certainly play its role in those too.
Tiger80 Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 So? It should be allowed in the form I suggested above. What consenting adults do in their private lives should be zero business of the state or anyone else. This logic don't work practically at all. Liberal countries like Sweden and Norway have even banned purchase of sex in the name of women protection. They totally forget argument my body my right. States always tries to impose some kind of restriction on their people which are acceptable to society.O/W why gambling , betting are banned in India. let people loose their money . Their money their right.
