It really helps keep the main wicket takers fresh. Remember we don't know how Bhajji/Mishra would fare so its crucial to atleast make sure Ishant/Aaron/Ashwin aren't overused and made ineffective. We can make with 4 bowlers in SC but 5 bowlers REALLY ensures that we can get those 20 wickets. The 7th batsmen doesn't give a guarantee that our batting can post big totals for sure. Kohli is losing the plot when he picks that bugger while dropping Pujara.

Austin 3:!6 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Can't Rahul keep? I am very sure I have seen him wicket keeping in some matches. If Rahul can play as a keeper that will solve all problems. India can easily play 6 batsman + 5 bowlers.

If he unable to perform, go back to 7 batsmen from next series. *I would ideally wanted to play Umesh ahead of Bhuvi. But keeping Bhuvi's batting skills in mind I would prefer him because of our weak tail. Umesh > Kumar as a test bowler though. *Rohit Sharma sits out. The only reason I think management wants Sharma to bat at no.3 is to have a Sehwag like effect on top. Rahul, Vijay or Pujara on top 3 are very slow even by test standards. Rohit Sharma being an impact player can score quickly once set.

sensible-indian Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Ashwin has a batsman's temperament but NOT a good batsman's temperament. A very good ball is enough to get him out. He won't play it off like good Test batsmen do but he will be good enough to edge it. Scoring runs at No 6 (where you are expected to score every time you bat) is a totally different ball game compared to scoring those clutch 30s and 50s at No 8 (where you aren't really expected to score every time you bat). Plus Ashwin gets out too many times after getting set. He just has 4 50s but countless 30s and 40s. Right now, Ashwin should bat at No 7 (due to 5 bowler strategy) and told to focus on his bowling which has started to look good.

This is easily one of the weakest teams put out since the 90s Batting will struggle to get 400 runs Bowling will struggle to get 20 wickets And effectively playing with 8 men with the inclusion of Nohit, Saha and Dartbhajan.
G_B_ Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Bhajji imo will have an impact in this series. rohit and Saha are the two who are dud. feel bad for Che. Clearly better than Rohit yet no place for him. 42 and 30 not out in the tour game on a hard pitch are good returns.
