coffee_rules
A stick for the selectors, and carrot-halva for its own members, appears to be the policy the Board of Control for Cricket in India has adopted. Thus, on Sunday, the Board's working committee meeting voted, among other things, to ratify the decision that selectors will henceforth not travel with the team on foreign tours; they will instead go around the country watching Ranji Trophy matches while team selection on tour in future will be the responsibility of the captain, vice captain and coach. No problems there -- there really is no case to be made for selectors going with the team. Players and captains in the past have privately expressed their dissatisfaction over selectors who intrude into the dressing room, sit in on strategy meetings, decide the composition of the playing XI and otherwise interfere in matters that logically should be outside their purview. What is inexplicable, though, is the Board's decision to send one member of every one of its 27 member-associations on an all expenses paid junket to Australia during the Indian team's tour of Australia just begun. "They will be going there as delegates," Board secretary Niranjan Shah said, when asked why; he did not however clarify what they would be "delegates" to, or since when cricket matches included "delegates". "We will send a group of around 7 or 8 officials every week by rotation so that everyone will get a chance to visit Australia," Shah said. So that apparently is the point -- keep selectors, who by some stretch of the imagination could be said to have some useful role to play, at home, but send officials, who have nothing whatsoever to do, no official duty to perform, on what is essentially a joy ride. This should be a WTF article of the year!. Again WTF!!!! Delegates to tour on official capacity, but no duties. They will definitely take their family and relatives..all on expenses paid by the BCCI. This is India in a nutshell. :alienbooty: Everytime you think they can't get lower, they do it with amazing consistency!!! :congrats: Link to comment

varun
I'm surprised they said it out loud.. This isn't anything new, been happening for a long time. It's attitudes like this that makes me even more supportive of ICL or any sort of competitive private enterprise in Indian cricket. Link to comment

Guest HariSampath
I think it is unfair to blame BCCI now....as Sharad Pawar had already revealed the BCCI plans in a press conference... Mr Pawar stressed this 3 meeting exercise was to conduct meetings with the candidates and see their presentations, and not with any view to give board offficials an opportunity to travel to holiday locations. He took pains to explain the board's policy of "less money on non cricketing matters and more money on the game" by citing the facts that just the 5 members of the selection commitee, 8 core members of the BCCI technical committee and 7 affiliate members of the BCCI's core committee ( to select the support staff of the coaching team) ,alone will travel for these meetings. Further a maximum of 3 family members only will be allowed for each BCCI official, for these meetings.Mr Pawar added, with a view to greater economy of travel and related matters, it had been decided to do away with the board's policy of making these members and their families travel business class, and instead hire a chartered flight. The cricket board has also strongly come down on the expense account and traveling allowance for the board officials, and now only $ 14,000 per day for officials and $2,500 per day for each of the family members has been allotted as incidental expenses. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=69278 Link to comment
