Thanks. Looking at the schedule, India A is playing tomorrow. Don't know why he wasn't included in the playing 11 in their previous game? Is he injured or is this due to some player rotation policy?

According to rkt. Aaron had a niggle. So I think he will play the next game.

Deodhar Trophy was played in a zonal format previously.

Top players from each zone got chances while the competition was tough too.

In this new format, featuring India A, India B and a state team...less players are getting chances, or getting less number of games , to showcase their talent against tougher competition compared to state-level tournaments. For example,  Shardul Thakur has not got a game yet and Negi has been dropped today for Jayant Yadav.

The flip side is...top zonal players like Vinay Kumar, who will in all probability never represent India again, can be left out in this format and only the real international prospects can be tried out.

So, there are good sides and bad in this new format. India C instead of the state team, could have solved most of the above mentioned problems...or 4 teams could have competed.

More tournaments featuring India A, India B , India C, India D  and a  top state level team, in a league format playing many games against each other, culminating in a final, would be nice.

Top Ranji players will get to practice against tougher competition and improve their standard. The current Deodhar trophy format has too few games and too few teams.

What happened to Challenger Trophy? Is it discontinued?

too many tournaments and schedule was getting congested, less break for players. so, they scrapped it.

BCCI  should have more tournaments with quality oppositions and multiple matches  than too many tournaments with low quality teams.

Scrapping the Challenger and reducing the number of zonal matches etc....is weakening our domestic structure.
