THE WOMENS CRICKET THREAD

Recommended Posts

England have qualified. 3 wins out of 3.

With the kind of form England is in we can expect them to beat Pakistan hands down. So it's almost a QF for India against WI. And yeah we almost have double the NRR of ENG despite loosing 2 of our 3 matches. Thanks to Bangladesh for that.

Indian eves need 115 to win. Will we very tough on this pitch. WI have good bowling and our batsmen have struggled so far in the tournament. If we manage to win this we still have to wait for the result of the next match to qualify. If ENG BT Pak then we qualify otherwise we are knocked out and Pak qualify(if WI also loose) otherwise if WI and Pak win then it will be down to NRR(WI sit pretty strong in that respect)

Hard Luck ladies. got knocked out after 2-3 really close losses. The Women's cricket is getting more competitive and that is good to see.

The top 4 teams have made the semis - WI has some good players and can challenge the stronghold of the top 3 (Aus,Eng, NZ). Things are also getting competitive with Pakistan, SL, SA also doing well and challenging the likes of India.

Coming to Indian cricket BCCI should really focus on longer term goals. We need to make women's cricket more popular. The pool of available players need to increase. Assign a good coach for longer term. Someone like Dravid should be drafted in to coach the ladies. Work with CA and get them to play WBBL. I suspect 3-4 of this team will be picked up by the WBBL teams - Harmanpreet, Mandhana, Mithali, Jhulan and maybe couple of spinners.  This will help develop talent at the top level with more exposure and also attract more people to take up cricket.

Better still would be a WIPL to run with IPL - maybe a shorter tournament that can run in parallel.

India women have the genesis of a good team. Experience (Raj and Goswami), upcoming talents (Mandhana, Deepti Sharma), all-rounders (Deepti, Shikha Pandey, Harmanpreet), etc. Need to u earth some good pacers and an explosive lower-middle order batter.
