What do you folks want to see in India's 4th Inn batting?

Everyone wants to see Indian batsmen "put up a fight" even if we lose. Sangakkara showed it in SL Aus series in 4th Inn of SL. But rather than just say wanna see a "fight"...can you folks describe what will make you feel alright even if we go on to lose the Test in our 4th Inn? For me: 1. We last atleast 4.5-5.0 sessions atleast. Anything less than these many # of sessions is not really a fight at all. 2. Runs: Our total should be 375-400 atleast, how many could SL score in their 4th Inn? This pitch is not a minefield? Can we not atleast show some fight to get 375-400? 3. Opening partnership atleast around 60 runs. 4. Top order should get atleast couple of batsman scoring centuries, some 50s? and excellent partnerships and good positive batting. What does India have to do in 4th Inn for you folks to feel decent about our batting in this MCG Test? Lets have some metrics to talk about it later.

And for what we DONT want to see: 1. We dont want to see India fold in 4 sessions. We should severely criticize them if they do that. 2. Fold under 3 sessions? This will be pathetic. If 3 sessions or under, then I'd like Veer and Hari Sampath to open threads to cuss our players :D Please do so.

No way they should think in terms of how many sessions they can survive The only way to go is try to score as many runs as possible each session :D

Sure. I dont disagree. Do that. BUT- by doing that ensure you survive more than 3 sessions. Otherwise, get 375-400. If we get out soon, or for less runs, then it is pathetic.

Me thinks we will be all out for 290.
MM, this is not a prediction thread on what you think will happen. What do you want to happen to make you feel ok? Realistically - please dont say I want India to win this - only then I will be ok. For example, my criteria is:

Feel ok ? I want to see enough to convince myself that we can compete in this series. Our bowling has already exceeded expectations in its performance. Now i want to see some intent from our batsman. By intent, I dont mean Slam, bam, good night Mam kinds tactics. I want them to show to the Aus that they are willing to tough it out and take them on. Even if we lose, I want the Aus to know that this Indian team can push them in the following test matches. More importantly, I want us to win two sessions with the bat continuously, meaning scores of more than 100 in each session with not more than 2 wickets lost. If we have to have ANY chance of beating the Aus, we need to win consecutive sessions with the bat and i need to see that happening in this test match. I woulndt too upset if we lose because mentally, I am already prepared for it. But as i said earlier, i need to see enough signs that tell myself that " Yes, we can compete".

Yes, I too am mentally prepared to lose Test-1. But want them to score atleast 400 runs total and show a real goddarn fight. If they do that, I'll be alright and decently happy. If they are out 330-350 or below, I'm gonna be a bit unhappy. If they are out below 300, this is REALLY REALLY BAD!

Aside from batting positively right from outset tomorrow morning(as long as we do that we won't get out cheaply), my only specific wish is to see Dravid get a big score. Lord knows this guy needs some confidence going into the next Test. India can't have their non-specialist opener completely ****ed up in the head. It's been painful to watch him play in this Test thus far and it's hard to imagine us winning anything in this series with Dravid looking like this. So what I WANT to see is Dravid score a 100 at reasonable pace tomorrow(SR of 40+).

Honestly, If you ask me, the way you see real-life situations is really funny/strange. Nothing can/should be measured by set yardsticks and conclusions drawn from them to decide whether you are happy/unhappy about it. That way, you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself, not a good thing to do. For you, it seems, fear of failure overrides expectation of success massively.
