Mumbai win another Ranji Trophy. What's the reason for their consistent success?

Mumbai win their 41^st Ranji Trophy Title by beating Saurashtra by an innings.  The Mumbai Team psyche is on another level altogether.  While they have a long history of winning the trophy and complete dominance in throughout the 1950s to 1970s, even after that the team keeps on wining every couple of years and that’s when it has gone through a rough patch.  Even after 2000 where the game was spread to other parts of India, Mumbai has won it 7 times.  It doesn’t matter if the team is full of rookies, inexperienced, once they come into the knockouts the opposite team has play their 100% to compete with Mumbai.  Other teams just don’t have that killer instinct in the knockouts on a consistent basis.   They may have a couple of good years but Mumbai has a good decade.  It has got to come down to their team psyche and self-confidence more than anything else.  Mental conditioning is an important aspect that is usually overlooked by many teams.

Mumbai area have an excellent school level to juniors infra & set-up, which is competitive too

too many times i have seen school level and junior cricket tournaments around other india cities played using tennis ball or tape ball on crappy fields in poorly flood lit grounds

I bet they MCA could probably put two teams in Ranji and they would both have the potential to reach the finals

Once Karnataka out before knockouts it's give Mumbai will win Ranji this year

In addition to their excellent structure, it helps that they have won so much in the past and they have been the one dominant team right through, maybe that helps them handle the pressure of knockouts better than any other state, they have won 41 out of 45 finals, that's a win% of around 91%, the only team which comes close is Karnataka with 8 out of 14 which means they have won just over half of the finals they have contested.

Also since they have made it to 45 finals they have won 45 semi-finals that is 86 knockout matches won over a period of 80 odd years and this is not counting the quarter-finals won by them (as per the old format). If you win so much then this winning mentality is easier to pass onto the next generation.
