Teams from Group of death, not always go to finals...

I can't remember but it has happened on previous occasions that the much hyped teams from 'group of death' fail to qualify to the finals.... These teams loses out to the teams from the 'easy group'...

could this be due to burning out during the group stages or simply being overconfident?

Ghanta group of death with Pakistan and Bangla in the group. Even Afghanistan did better than these teams. And WI, England and SA would have murdered us in that group. That group was 10 times more difficult than ours.

The fact that we would have played in Mumbai would have effectively neutralized our chances in the tournament.

This is just speculation. India beat Australia in Australia and then Australia beat South Africa in South Africa. Cricket doesn't work like that all the time but South Africa played terribly and could have easily lost against India. 

 

Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are much weaker than Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Usually, I look at teams not in group of death as the teams with luck on their side .... To win major tourneys, unless you are a terribly strong team, you need some luck to be on your side
