fineleg
Is there anyone? For Test Matches? Sehwag has zilch technique, when in form his hand eye co-ordination will save him. Jaffer plays well against WI and Pak attacks in flat pitches. Gambhir = minnow basher, Bangladesh et.al. Chopra = reasonably good technique, but selectors ignore him KKD = makeshift opener, out of form, not very good technique, but he will get chances again sooner or later. For Test Matches...who else is there in domestics who can be considered? Are Cheteshwar Pujara or Shikhar Dhawan any good? Link to comment
Rajiv
Chopra = reasonably good technique, but selectors ignore him Link to comment
sm332
the answer from a technique standpoint is Chopra right now ... Jaffer has scored runs in England and SA albeit in SA his runs were on a relatively flat track Link to comment
fineleg
The selectors should prep Chopra for SA series (even though it is in India), it will be a good starting point for his comeback. The poor guy is devastated that selectors snubbed him in the last minute for Aus tour. Really bad. Link to comment
suraj
SMG should come out of retirement Link to comment
fineleg
SMG should come out of retirement and maybe Kris Srikkanth! Link to comment
maggot_brain
We ain't gonna produce good openers when we have featherbed pitches and medium pace trundlers. End of story. Why has India NEVER produced a genuine fast bowler. And don't give me this Sreesanth nonsense, yeah he's fast but not like Bond, Lee, Tait, Steyn, Malinga or even the likes of Ntini and Harmison. Genuine fast bowlers, pitches with something in it for the bowlers. Flat tracks produce FTBs - what does that famous book say? You reap what you sow. Link to comment
Sachinism
chopra could usually hold an end but also remember last time in aus, how many times he got dropped early on by the fielders Link to comment
fineleg
Ok, every realistic post above is abt chopra. Is there no one else absolutely? How are Pujara, Dhawan? :nervous: Link to comment
sm332
Dhawan is more aggressive and not that tight of a technique ... Pujara has fallen off a lil bit Link to comment
Cricketics
jaffer is good.. he is just having this bad series against australia.. jafferz technique is quite good as a batsman.. he is just not getting good against brett lee.. thats other thing.... Chopra offcourse is good.. Link to comment
gator
Dhawan is more aggressive and not that tight of a technique ... Pujara has fallen off a lil bit on the contrary, Pujara is red-hot this season.... he is in terrific form and definitely one for the future.... having said tht, i would like to continue with Jaffer... he jus scored a double century against 150kph Aktor at almost a run a ball... i would like him to continue for another year or so, before we can bring in one of the newer guys.... eternalhope
Pujara has moved to the Middle order this season for Saurashtra and has done pretty good there. I guess Parthiv Patel could be a good bet. He has been opening in a few matches and is very good with the horizontal bat shots and is in pretty good form too. Link to comment
Desi Cartman
and maybe Kris Srikkanth! Bring back "Sidhu" :two_thumbs_up: On a serious note ... Gambhir & Chopra Link to comment
DomainK
jaffer is good.. he is just having this bad series against australia.. jafferz technique is quite good as a batsman.. he is just not getting good against brett lee.. thats other thing.... Chopra offcourse is good.. Jaffer is a predominantly front foot player and thats the mail reason why he is facing problems in Australia where you need a strong back foot game. However, he will do well back in India where the bounce is lower. Link to comment
graphic23
*bump* Gambhir = Minnow Basher. Sehwag doesn't have good technique. *end bump* Link to comment
Holysmoke
Actually we have a good reserve opener in Rahane Link to comment
fineleg
*bump* Gambhir = Minnow Basher. Sehwag doesn't have good technique. *end bump* Gambhir - dramatically changed and kudos to him for the transformation. Sehwag - still very much an instinctive, and hand-eye coordination player - not much footwork etc. Will be brilliant when in form, but equally susceptible to long periods of low scores if his form deserts him. For now, Viru and GG are the mainstay of our Indian team to give us a good start. So, hope they remain in form. Link to comment

fineleg
Another day' date=' another pointless/useless/ridiculous/nonsensical thread.. Sigh.....[/quote'] Are you nuts or what? This thread was created a long time back when we were having trouble with our openers. Read the other responses in this thread - most were agreeing about Chopra. Some folks are on a thread bump spree. Thats all. Link to comment
