It is not just about pitches, there are no more big hundreds from Sehwag or 3 or more centurions in single innings. We were winning by innings even when opposition scored 400 batting first.I don't think we would do that now.I don't  know yet which is better fifth bowler vs  extra batsman especially in India.I don't want to lose Ashwin the bowler to Ashwin the allrounder in this process.

That ge was the most stressfull game for me since India vs Pak world cup 2011 semi finals.

If you make him bowl too much (in 4 bowler attack), it could blunt his edge too. Similarly, adding too much batting responsibility will also do the same.

 

The obvious "solution" is to play a batting allrounder at 6 who can average 40+, or to find a technically correct keeper-batsman (in both areas) who can average 35-40+. Since we can't do either, we are stuck between 6 batsmen policy or the 5 bowlers one.

Bad memories indeed... I shudder to recollect how Ashwin failed to get any wickets despite bowling a large number of overs.
