Malcolm Merlyn Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Ravi Ashwin joined a select list of all rounders who have taken 50 or more wickets and scored 500 plus test runs in a calendar year. The feat has been achieved only 10 times in history of the game. Shaun Pollock,Kapil Dev and Sir Ian Botham have done it twice in their careers. Kapil Dev took the highest number of wickets(75) in a calendar year while also scoring 500 plus runs. Andrew Flintoff scored the highest number of runs (709) in a calendar year while taking 50 plus wickets. Some very big names like Imran Khan,Keith Miller,Richard Hadlee,Gary Sobers are not on the list. Sidhoni, Mosher, sourab10forever and 2 others 5
Samcric Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Nice one. Ashwin's record in 2016, as of now, is very similar to Pollock's 2001. With 2.5 more matches to go, Ash can end the year with 700+ runs and 70+ wickets. Seems no one has done it before but Flintoff came close to doing that in 2005.
chewy Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 That's some illustrious company, surprise not see the following modern day all-rounders on the list: 1) Jacques Kallis 2) Chris Cairns 3) Wasim Akram 4) Shane Watson
Malcolm Merlyn Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 Looks like he can have 70 wickets and 700 runs.

Would still be 2 matches lesser than Pollock..would really be a great feat.
