fineleg Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Aakash Chopra: Lack of bouncers to Moeen "Ishant dimissed Moeen with a bouncer at Lord's in 2014. Mohammed Shami dismissed Moeen with a bouncer in Mohali two weeks ago. Considering these facts you are almost sure that there will be bouncers the moment he walks out to bat. Therefore it was surprising to see so few bowled to him on the first day of the Chennai Test." Can't believe we have pace of Umesh Yadav (and height of Ishant Sharma) but don't bounce out Moeen Ali early when he is edgy. tweaker 1
Texan Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Umesh doesn't really have a potent bouncer. This is where we are missing Shami, who has the ability to bowl a very good well directed bouncer. sscomp32 and tweaker 2
express bowling Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 I was very surprised too. We missed a trick here. Ishant has a good bouncer . Umesh is more hit and miss but can bowl a couple of good bouncers if he tries four of them. Umesh actually bowled a decent bouncer to Moeen, which was pulled awkwardly to mid-wicket, lobbed up and fell behind the fielder....but he was removed next over.

That was a poor bouncer at mid chest height by Yadav.
fineleg Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 This Moeen Ali has a problem with well directed bouncer and that is what Aakash Chopra and many are alluding to. Its kinda sad that even Ishant Sharma with his height is not exploiting that area.

Neither poor nor great.....but even then Moeen sort of top edged it. If a systematic bouncer theory were tried with appropriately placed fielders, he could have been dismissed much earlier. Brainfade Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Seemed like the slowness of this soft pitch would have negated the potency of bouncers. The ball was simply not getting height on it, and it wouldve been easy pickings for pull shots. JMHO. Mosher 1
fineleg Posted December 17, 2016 Author Posted December 17, 2016 finally bounced him out. Should not have given him the 100 sscomp32, tweaker and express bowling 3

Today....lots of good bouncers bowled.....Moeen bounced out by Umesh.....batsmen hit on the helmet and body by both Umesh and Ishant, atleast 4 times.
express bowling Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 (edited) Mooen has a weakness against bouncers....no bouncer to him on day one.....scores 146....lots of bouncers to him on day 2...he is bounced out. Rashid has a problem against bouncers.....very few bouncer bowled to him after he comes to bat....then both fast bowlers removed....he is batting 50+ ...... I know we are winning everything now.....but these tactical errors may cost us in overseas test matches against the big sides.
