Selection of squad done by selection panel . Used to be one selector from each zone and skipper .

 

thats why loads of zonal picks . Like one zone would have fav player who big wigs loved from that zone and known them for years . Selector from zone told by his bosses don't leave the selection panel without him being in squad .

From the various interviews by selectors, captains and coaches..... the ideas I have formed are .....

 

The final  playing 11 is chosen from the selected squad by the captain and the coach 

 

The squad  is selected by the selectors with strong inputs by the captain and coach.....especially if they are high profile ones.  If they specifically want some player or some type of player, they will surely get it.

This is how its been, at least since the days of Ganguly.  Before the 2000s, the selectors did not allow the captain much say in the squad selection.  Thus the likes of the famous "Noel David".
