O' now you'll judge a player from his debut IPL (Tamasha league) match ? God save Indian Cricket ....
I think it's pointless to judge batsmen based on IPL. About bowlers, you can at least get some raw early impressions about potential. How their action is, their speed, swing, degree of turn, variations, control, etc.

India need Irfan to get his act together. He can be a decent 3rd seam bowling option and will strengthen our tail.
I was thinking on similar lines. If he can maintain the 130s consistently and also swing the new ball, he can be a handy bowler, and his batting adds a bit more cushion to our tail.
