That is your opinion. Not a fact. Cricket will only grow thru clubs. Cricket was stagnant for 100 years when it was nation vs nation.

That's also your opinion. Ill stick to mine.

But dont you think it would be revenge against cricket in general too when PSL and other leagues would be close to IPL and giving more money to players considering market and growth.

Cricket would take a route of football and Players would happily choose leagues over International.

And bear in mind without Intetnationals Leagues would be nowhere to be found due to various reasongs amongst one of them is production of quality players becoz its internationals not leagues who produce players.

On your first point, I agree that it would be bad for cricket if league cricket became the primary version and international cricket was limited to just world cups - like Football.  As a cricket fan, I really like that we have meaningful international games and home and away series, and the proliferation of leagues everywhere definitely endangers that.   But the ECB's moves at the ICC level, in trying to isolate the BCCI, are actually speeding up the move in that direction.   When you attempt to bully the BCCI, you only incentivize it to act more selfishly.

On your second point - I actually disagree.  Players are "made" by quality competition.  Historically, international cricket was really the only place that offered the top level competition that forges the best players.  But the IPL is actually a very good approximation of that, and for a T20 player, probably the pinnacle of competition.  India has already benefited from the players "produced" by the IPL - take the example of Jasprit Bumrah - the guy is actually dominating international cricket in the whiteball format - and he was a player that was developed almost entirely due to the IPL.   There are others like him, and bound to be many more.

And other leagues will also 'produce' players, although not right away, and not as many, because they don't offer the same standard of competition - they can't afford the same quality and quantity of top cricketers that the IPL can.    I know, as a Pakistani, it will be difficult for you to accept, but the standards gap is quite large between the 2 leagues.  That's not to say that it will always stay that way, PSL could improve over time.  And even in its current level, it still has started to help Pakistani players by exposing them to the few top players and their methods.

Good to have a discussion with you on ICF, for the first time, without it descending into nonsense India-Pakistan back and forth - you have the capacity of a good poster, if you can just control yourself and not get baited into the useless 'battles'.     Keep posting.

Their country their players. What the eff is the problem with you peopl

Not sure what the "eff" is your problem.  As cricket fans, the aussie pay dispute is an obvious topic of interest.   I have always believed that a revenue sharing model is the most stable form of compensation for cricket, precisely because its the most fair to the primary people involved in sustaining the sport - the skill players themselves.   I was hoping that India would adopt a similar model sooner rather than later - and think its unfortunate that the aussie board is trying to move away from it.

Reportedly, the current players and Anil Kumble have already broached the subject the CoA that is overseeing Indian cricket for the moment, which is not surprising.  Anil Kumble has been involved in player compensation issues since his playing days, and is well informed on it.   Hopefully, it still happens - I want Indian cricket to adopt a revenue sharing model asap, regardless of what the Aussie board does.   But obviously, how the Aussie situation plays out in the end, is going to have ramifications for how other boards and players will address the compensation issue.

The Future of cricket is all about the calendar -  what portion of the playing calendar will national teams commit to, for international cricket?  Boards cannot and should not, make this far-reaching decision without the consent of their players - since the decision will obviously impact the players' ability to maximize their earnings from free-lancing in Franchise cricket.   And if boards want the players to commit to the national 'cause', they should compensate them fairly for that commitment.

I still think BCCI is missing a trick by not playing some sort of mind games by hinting they are thinking of giving long term contracts to some of the top global players and mentioning Smith, Warner & Starc on that list :phehe: I would play such sort of "shakuni" chaal just to watch the fun

Who would do it?  Not the goody gumdrop boys and girls of the CoA.  And not their appointed caretaker CEO either.   There is no Don right now to make the big moves.    It will be months before the BCCI shakeup is sorted.

I would simply "leak" some info via media and then won't comment anything - neither deny or confirm the news :giggle:

Well that would actually make CA more motivated to strike a deal with players, and if you really want to have them struggle, then you don't want to interrupt them while they are making a mistake.  :winky:

Actually that will give players more leverage to hold out :winky:

Players already know they have the leverage - rumors of longer contracts dont' increase leverage - rather they give CA an opportunity to brand the players as money greedy traitors.    I think offering long-term contracts for the top players is a sound strategy for the IPL - but they should do it in a way that doesn't make the players look bad.   Right now is not the right time for it, apart from giving good popcorn entertainment to us fans.  In this fight between Aussie players and the aussie board, don't do anything that gives the aussie board any opportunities to tarnish the players - The board is doing a good enough job digging a hole for itself.

If you feel BCCI is being Victimized and Isolated by CA and ECB then BCCI can also hit back but make sure not on the cost of such wonderful game.

Players arent made in few months tournaments its long and hectic endeavour.its the regions,associations,U19s who work and invest on players to reach them on the level IPLs and Internationals, leagues only norture their skills and give them further push...which league's franchises would invest on a player developement from his budding stage?

I ddnt mean to glorify PSL or downplay IPL i just gave you an example because im not too delusional to not admit that its no comparison at this stage. But the point i want to state is that in few years when PSL BPL develope more they would offer much more money to players though not as quite big as Ipl for say if ipl gives an avg of 10 cr to players they could probably give 5 cr because the cricket market and economy is very much capable of So the same players may be barring few elites like warner,Ab others would be seeing in every other league, which will hamper the charm and uniqueness of Ipl.

And Nice of you for good words, the thing is when some posters dont realise the difference between social media and a healthy forum then things are bound to go wrong.

IPL Franchises do invest a lot of money in player scouting and development.   Mumbai Indians scout operations are led by John Wright.   Look at Delhi Daredevils who have paid top dollar for unproven domestic talents - they paid crores of rupees for the likes of Rishabh Pant, Samson, Nair - well before they were anywhere near the international team.  Of course the player development needs to continue outside of the "season" in the respective local First class cricket as well, but I think you need to re-consider the impact of top level Franchise cricket as a 'finishing school' for prospects who may not yet be getting opportunities at the international level.

India has benefited massively from this - the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Yuzhvendra Chahal and many more, are getting exposed to the world's best and competing against them in high pressure situations.   Most, if not all players need that experience at a high level, before they can establish themselves as consistent performers.  Arguably, even Virat Kohli is a product of this system - he has been playing IPL cricket since 2008, and it wasn't until 2012 or later that he really kicked on into the top player he is now.
