The importance of introducing and backing exciting new talent with regularity

Recommended Posts

England reaped the benefits of playing 20 year old Sam Curran in the last test.

They are playing young Olie Pope in this test.

Steady stream of young talent being introduced.

At home it's easy to introduce young players on away tours it's very hard for young batsman.

Young batsmen aaye hi kaha hain - Kohli jo Dhawan chahiye, Sharma Chihaye, Dhoni chahiye, bus specialist test batsmen nahi chahiye!

And how many young batsmen have we introduced at home in the last 3 years  ?

Nair's introduction was forced when both Rohit and Rahane were injured.

We Have Batsman Who score Tons at home so it's hard. You start thinking they will improve away and some of them like vijay,Rahane have done well on away tours.Kl Rahul is a young batsman who has looked out of sea.Even Kohli Struggled in his first aus, eng,wi tours. Now with Vijay coming near end and Dhawan failing constantly we have 2 places up for grabs in home season.

Dhawan was brought back to tests based on his ODI exploits ( after being out of the picture for some time )

Rohit was pushed in the test team too.

This is where we could have groomed some young batters in India ... batters with good off stump game who are ok against bounce too.

K.l Rahul Was Injured so Dhawan got chance.
Rohit did well in Sri Lanka so he went to Sa.I don't see anybody who stood out in a tour as batsman against england A.If our best talent is last few years Rahul is struggling so much what can u expect from others pitches are tough.Shaw will get chance this season I think .

Mukund was tried for 2 tests, scored a 81 in his last, never played again. It was Dhawan who carried on.

Why was he playing tests in SL and India  in the first place ?

Rahul struggling so much does not mean everyone will struggle.  In the early 90s , Manjrekar was expected to be a good overseas player ... did not materialize ... but Dravid and Laxman succeeded later on along with Tendulkar ofcourse.

Main thing is to identify a some batters with good off stump game and ability to handle short stuff ...  develop them and try them out in home tests.

they too have been on and off .none of their youngsters have settled down.

Yeah ... you have to back them too.

Bumrah in tests and Kuldeep in ODIs are 2 examples of young bowlers being backed ... and they have changed the look of our bowling attack ... Bumrah in tests in SA and Kuldeep since he is a regular in LOIs.

We have introduced and backed some young bowlers and got results. Now, we need to do the same with batsmen, especially in tests.

Kohli is a better identifier of bowling talent than batting talent.
