we have been seeing  them failing overseas in test matches ....how long will be the rope????

should we groom other test batsmen??

What wrong has Dhawan done?

How many Indian openers have done well overseas in history?

How many openers are averaging 40 in world cricket atm? Dhawan should be in mix for 3-4 years more.

Avg in Wi, Sa, NZ, AUS, ENG

Dhawan - 28.84

Rohit - 23.90

Ashwin- 32.95

Bhuvi - 28.42

I think that shud say all

Unfair to compare them with Dhawan who is an opener.

Even Sehwag had similar averages and played 100+ tests. Dhawan especially can score outside. Maybe 1 or 2 fluke centuries, but he can.

Rohit on the other hand is hopeless.

Dhawan is not that gr8 against spinners also . Gambhir was so had u taken his name i wud have agreed with u

coz of his bad overseas record

Clutch in odi, test not much to show

The few thing that wud work for dhawan

atleast has one good overseas tour

Lack of backup option or lack of chances given to those option

Main openers not doing well to

They both are fragile to

But then again he doesnt give much confidence either . So no point wasting time on him to

Yes average of 42 for opener is not much to show.

They are bowlers or max bowling all rounder. U cant avg less then them

Ok leave the comparison , avg of 28 is not acceptable

Sehwag had runs in Aus, Eng, SA- even if he failed atleast his runs in past gave team hope that he has done it before so he can do it again . Sehwag avg got affected in his last years where his poor attitude towards fitness hurted him n his lack of hunger to

Dhawan is at his peek whats his excuse

Dhawan has scored in NZ but thats it. Can is out of the picture now he has failed so much overseas and their are glaring weekness with his game . Then rahul is a better option

Raydu avg 50 +, voges had a humengeous avg . Even rohit sharma avg 80 in NZ series his avg is also around 30 which isnt bad

are these avgs showing the real picture

That avg of 42 doesnt give any confidence to us in overseas and thats what is ahead.

OK vijay n rahul has been inconsistent but atleast they have done something overseas to give us faith that they can do it again

This is quite common in cricket. Almost all openers are failing overseas. Except Cook, there are not many batsmen with good all round record. Hell, most openers are struggling to cement their place because of failures even at home.

That's why he isn't the worst option and should always remain in 15. Playing XI can vary according to captain's preferences.

Standards of cricket is falling low doesnt mean we shud lower ours

Him being in 15 is debatable, him having in 11 over rahul n vijay is bizzare specially when u want to play 5 batsman

Now the debate of him being in 15 - U can either keep someone who can score in easier condition n fail in tough time n again or give chances to a potential youngsters who also can score in easy condition but has the potential to do well overseas and.

In last 2 yrs options have emerged- Samarth, prashant chopra, mayank, shaw, gill , panchal ....

Now can they do better then dhawan - we wont knw until we try.

At the end of the day it all comes to down to choosing between investing in someone or being happy with mediocrity . Problem is him being in 15 makes the captain n coach think he has to be in starting lineup no matter what specially that he is a left hander which has caused an insecurity among better batsman like Rahul n vijay
