not to nitpick but i thought PLA has over 80% of the high point ridge lines along the LAC and the Indo-Tibetan border ?

We may have numerical superiority in army in the region, but we are hopelessly outclassed in the air force and soon to be in the navy department.

IAF doesn't want to scare Indian public, but their '43 squadrons minimum' is a 1990s line, right now we'd need 70 squadrons or so minimum to ward off a 2-front war.

IN Air we are outclassed by their j20 which is in development and unclear on capability. They 5th get UAV is same status as our own in development.

2, Tejas mk2 MWF ( the home grown mirage on steroids for future) ( big numbers 20 squad) ( this is slow as first flight is expected in 2023 only.

For Navy

1, The k series missiles ( sea launched)

2, The SSN and SSBN project.

so all these numbers of squads minimum numbers should be taken with a pinch of salt. In today's network-centric warfare on sam saturated fields and several force multpliers on either side, it depends on the current deployments and what a country can muster in a specific theater. 

Imagine China has 50 squads and has 30 squads of 4th and 5th gen - do you think their 20 squads of 3rd gen will survive in sam rich Indian airspace ? they wont even deploy it. So india would need potent highly networked mrca and awacs in this side( read rafale)

we have 120 MiG-21 Bison. They have 728 J-7, which is licensed version of MiG-21. Yes ours are way better, but nearly 7:1 odds in their favor means their J-7s will eat our MiG-21s for dinner.

They have 323 J-10s, which are atleast on par with our Mirage-2000s and we have only 45 of them or so.

They have 200 J-11s, 75 Su-27s, 73 Su-30MKK and 24 Su-35s and 50 J-16s for a total of 422 Su-27++ series. We have 242 MKIs. All but their Su-35s & J-16s are inferior but Su-35 & J-16s are superior to Su-30MKI and again they have decisive numeric edge. 

 

They already have 60+ J-20s, for which we have no answer. 

PLAAF has decisive numerical edge.

As for their navy - they completely outclass us in numbers yet again - way,way more attack subs, surflace fleet of destroyers, cruisers and corvettes and they will have 4 Aircraft Carriers in just a few years, the last 2 EMALS CATOBAR enabled heavy carriers with 100 aircrafts or so.

j7 big 21 are not numbers that we should be bothered by, imagine a scenario where they are ready to swarm Indian air space with all their j7's by that time Indian air assets are all gone and only SAM remain. India is desperate for nuke hits, that's a point of no return. We are looking at who has more men on the ground type of scenario sector to sector fight. 

 

What India needs is indigenous tech and manufacturing ( + all the industries metallurgy etc) that is what will help India survive an all in war with China. 

 

But an all in war with China is doomsday for India for sure.

Their j20s are IOC - in 2018 towards end of year there were reports that the j20s participated in combat exercises with BVR. 

 

But India will have no match to this, till AMCA gets inducted ( we do not even have time frame for it - 2025 is first flight) PAK FA is out so yeah thats a capability gab that India will have to contend with. 

This is the reason Rafale current and follow-on orders and Tejas MWF are extremely critical for India in the next 5 years in the later half of the next decade AMCA and GHATAK will become super critical. But all this is beside the fact that Ind v chian will happen in IOR where it will be battle of the submarines. India can not match Chinese pace of shipbuilding, we need to build bases and launch pads in IOR which is what the current admin is doing, dissuade china from any action.
