PCB not to support India on sledging

Recommended Posts

http://inhome.rediff.com/cricket/2008/mar/03pcb.htm The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to support India's bid to get a total ban imposed on sledging when the issue was discussed at the ICC [images] chief executives' meeting in Kuala Lumpur last month. The BCCI had proposed a ban on sledging after a spate of unsavoury incidents between the Indian and Australian players in their ongoing series. But it was decided at the Chief Executives' meeting that umpires will use the ICC's existing code of conduct to decide whether a verbal exchange between players falls into the category of abuse. A PCB official said India had introduced the proposal for ban on sledging but Pakistan's stand was that the ICC code of conduct had enough clauses to deal with the issue. "We just feel sledging is a relative thing and although it should never allowed to go out of hand but umpires should use the context of a match or series and its location to determine what constitutes sledging," the official said. The PCB has been taking a lot of flak from former players and critics in recent days for its unstinted support and to every decision of the Indian board particularly over the Indian Premier League and Indian Cricket League. The member countries have agreed that ICC will take a zero-tolerance approach to sledging. ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed [images] will write to match officials, umpires and the heads of cricket boards to inform them of the decision. Oh, looks like their angry because the BCCI rejected their tour offer. :hysterical::hysterical:

What is this supposed to mean ? I will stop watching cricket if there is no sledging. I am pretty sure only sledging bordering on personal/racial/sexual abuse/vilification will not be tolerated. Otherwise its perfectly fine to sledge. Whats a game of cricket without banter and taunts ? Might as well watch a chess game between Anand and some Russian challenger.

Have you ever actually watched it? Its quite fun. Though only if the time for moves is short. If you havent done so already then do take a walk around San Francisco Pier area. There is a block or two right outside Nordstorm where you have many people playing chess. It is a beautiful sight, or used to be about 3-4 years when I was there. People watching players play, often suggesting what move to make. Chess is quite infectious really, almost like an addiction if you start enjoying it. Of course if you keep getting beaten then...

Chess is a nice game to play, but not so wonderfully interesting to watch, much like Golf. Of course, if you are really into that sport, you could possibly appreciate the beauty of every intricate move/strategy, but otherwise, its a big ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz....

The PCB's policies w.r.t BCCI seem to be just give and take. If the chain is broken in between, the toys start to disappear out of the pram in quick time. I wish these guys reversed their ICL policy instead of voting against the sledging ban. fbm: thanks for reminding about Faisal Iqbal. Here's the kid sledging Saj Mahmood. TeFy8t9SGfk
