What Makes Bumrah An Oddity

Recommended Posts

Make no mistake, Bumrah is a unique fast bowler. Think Wasim at peak ripeness. That is exactly what Bumrah is right now.

The Key to his Power is his Run Up

Bumrah's slow run-up and delivery motion allows him to follow the batman's intentions and change his line and length at the very last moment. This makes him massively dangerous because you cant plan for any kind of delivery because the guy at the throwing end is watching for your plan and adjusting accordingly. It's a dance and Bumrah is leading.

This is why time and again, when batsmen decide to go after him, he has the perfect response ready. He is a predator adjusting his speed, trajectory and method up till the very last moment.

Defensive bowlers don't get 49 wickets in 10 test matches at an average 21.9 and a strike rate of 49.   ( like Bumrah has done )

I am talking about ODIs. Dont mixup formats. Good defensive bowlers can be very good in ODIs like Malinga, Bracken, etc.

Anyone who can bowl attacking lines and lengths in test cricket can do the same in the first 10 overs of ODIs.  That is what I want to showcase by the above stat.

And Bumrah has done that in ODIs in the last 18 months to 2 years before this World Cup.

He used to be a defensive ODI bowler but not anymore.
