Pataudi, with all due respect, I think has a weakness for the white skin. I remember he was the only Indian expert who supported the umpire over Sachin's shoulder-before-wicket dismissal.

Pataudi I don't know much about...but I see no harm in them chastising or advising Dhoni...it's a good thing. Telling him not to broach the inner workings in public is sound advice, methinks.

We know hoew much politics happens in BCCI and I am quite sure that Dhoni has been under pressure to review his strategies and accomodate the senior superstars. It is next to impossible to deal with that. A public statement will now subdue that pressure.

After all, it is a captains responsibility to shoulder a lot of these burdens and not start to put the dressing room into disarray with public statements on selections and sending messages. I believe a captain has to deal with these things discerningly, otherwise his charges will lose trust in him. That's why their words are important to heed.

Exactly the kind of thing we dont need few days before a Test series is starting. MSD said it to the media, now watch the media spin it and balloon it, oh well, either MSD was a fool to think media will leave it at that, or he intentionally wanted to make it into a big controversy. This was inevitable, now the word wars before Test starts.

Lot of times a simple "No comments" to the media is sufficient.

What if dhoni was thinking that if i make this clear the seniors will perform well as to earn a place in the side there by getting the maximum out of them We all know that dhoni does bring the best out of all the players............ If he was to continue in this way, going public and using the media to get the best out of his players, he will very soon lose their trust and their loyalty. It will also breed resentment. Instead of having a motivated, cohesive group...you will have factionalism, political intrigue and putsches. Which is why the old men, who are being reviled here, are giving him some stern advice. He should pay close heed. Pay heed to the wisdom of years and do respect these former captains of India. Their word is not unconsidered.
