I have been seeing this comment in lots of posts.....

Has it really deteriorated?

I don't think...

I have been following cricket from last 15 years.... and don't think, it deteriorated.....

Bhajji has over-played atleast 5 to 6 years, as we didn't had anyone to replace him........I don't think Ashwin was Test ready when he made his debut.....

We never had automatic choice when our main-stream spinner hanged up his boots...

We couldn't find a decent spinner who can support kumble in Sub-continent conditions.....Complete onus was on Kumble to take wickets...

Same was with Bhajji.....

We never had rich talent in spinning department apart from bhajji & kumble (in the last 15 years) and we haven't enhanced or deteriorated....

there was a phase when it was an issue not anymore

in test- ashwin , jadeja, kuldeep, nadeem

upcoming- rahul chahar

In LOI- kulcha

upcoming- rahul, gopal, markhande, nadeem, gowtham, even ashwin can always be in line and then so many all rounder like axar, jadeja, sundar

No, it's mostly got to do with the 2 new balls & T20 proliferation which includes bringing boundaries in & range hitting! For all the praise of Warne/Murali they'd have been carted too based on today's rules in fact probably more so because they gave lots of flight.

Please add Bishnoi . he will make a quick jump atleast in T20 . Guy bowls 90K  even the googlies , which is good in T20 format. .

it looks good on the surface, but a careful analysis will reveal dangerous signals.

Ash has been a real revelation for me - has done well in the past 2 yrs - but his fitness isn't great and he is getting older. I expect to see him decline in a year or two.

Jaddu's bowling is already declining even as his batting has improved significantly. he is becoming more like a batting AR in some respects because his bowling is expected to contain these days.

kuldeep will never be enough of a threat home/abroad until he adds more revs and overspin and speed.

Nadeem is a domestic workhorse and has admittedly look good. [I rate him more than jaddu as a pure bowler]

Rahul Chahar is unproven, and has limited FC experience.

to summarize, I think we only have ash and nadeem for the moment who are genuine bowlers and neither are particularly young. more worryingly, none of the young crop have shown evidence of having the skill-set and patience to be test bowlers.

LOI: both kul and cha impact is reduced since teams are figuring out their weaknesses on flat tracks. see how eng played them in WC for example. I expect both of their impact to decrease.

upcoming: gopal, rahul chahar seem decent wicket taking + run containment options. but gopal is not even in A sides regularly. our spin ARs are pedestrian with ball.
