Choking in a bilateral series

I can't recall such level of choking before in a bilateral series. SA used to do that but in KOs (and at times also had some type of bad luck with rain, DL, etc.). In the T20 series vs Ind, NZ could have even won it, let alone be 0-5 

 

What does it need to learn?

Who cares? Give me WC semis win over this useless 5-0 drubbing. 

NZ will have some good bowlers coming back pretty soon and hopefully they will be ready for the World Cup. As someone said, they will be different in the World Cup.

to chew properly before swallowing. if you don't do it, then chances of choking will increase.

NZ has the tendency to choke in KOs too.

Well they have not in last world cups . Last year's defeat must have taken a toll on them mentally. That was gut wrenching.

In 2015 WC F, they looked out of sort.  In SF, NZ played SA. Don't remember the 2016 T20 WC SF, but NZ was playing some great cricket till that point .... In the SF 2019, that 5/3 did it for them but still allowed Ind to crawl back .... A team can lose frequently in KOs if it takes on better teams but NZ can freeze at times .... Though NZ do relatively well vs Ind in KOs like in CT2000 F and the recent WC19 SF

Before that also they have long list of bad performances in WC knockouts. Thanks to Cairns who won them 2000 ICC trophy from verge of defeat.

They were never the favourites to win any of the matches you quoted. Choke is when you are favourites and you go bust when it matters. Like SA or recently India. NZ on the other hand has done pretty decently in last 4-5 tournaments.

All the top teams are usually more or less evenly matched unless you are running into a AT WI or AUS sides. Choke is also when you get yourself into a winning position but lose like what BD did (played some weird shots under pressure) vs. Ind in that same 2016 T20 world cup

To my memory, I have never seen a choke from NZ in any tournament. They might not have been good enough but never surrendered a advantageous situation if they got a chance.

Sometimes, they just don't show up due to pressure/expectations like in the 2015 WC F .... Anyways,  the thread is about what team needs to learn
