How many of us are We?

Who are We? We (fans who enjoy sport for its glorious uncertainties) are always happy because:

 

• Ind as a cricket nation has nothing to prove 
• The team has won all major LOI events multiple times (well T20 WC maybe once) and was and is #1 test side
• The top players have been among the best in the world (their records speak for themselves so we are not out to prove their qualifications) 
• People love to play India (even if it just for more $$$)
• IPL rules 

 

We love good competition and enjoy a good banter w/o taking sports results too personally (Our TV breaking neighbors may disagree w/ such ridiculous concepts of we ). We do not abuse other teams, players, and fans. We appreciate good cricket and can participate in the success of other teams as well (including the ones that beat us). We are foremost cricket fans so want to see all major teams develop as the competitive the sport gets, more interesting it becomes.

 

We understand that sports by definition can not be perfect and robotic. If it were, every bowl bowled, batted, fielded would be perfect. And if everything is perfect, nothing much exciting is happening as -> a perfect ball deserves a wicket, but it if the ball is played perfectly as well, it also deserves to go for runs. Now if the ball played perfectly is also fielded perfectly, there are no runs. Same process repeats in a perfect scenario (Of course, we are not foolish enough to imagine that only India play perfect cricket as it is not possible in sports) and it is not necessarily fun. Therefore, we do not mind imperfect cricket which includes bad balls, shots and misfieds from time to time. The tonic of perfection mixed with imperfection, along with wins and losses, creates excitement and uncertainties. And therefore, we continue to enjoy the sport for what it is -> an experience much like life, both empowering and humbling.

A Haiku on cricket:

 

The forecast was for rain.

Heard chants for fours and sixes.

At a distance, was a cricket stadium.

PS when you read a Haiku, many times it appears simple/straightforward. But if you ponder, it conveys a deeper meaning than what was originally perceived
