Jimmy Anderson and Anil Kumble- are they the most ignored ATG’s in cricket history?

They are rated accurately, legendary HTBs and I have the highest respect for that category. Give me a match-winner in familiar conditions over someone who is good in all conditions but not a game/series changer. Purely based on the volume of wickets and matches/series won  at home these 2 are ATGs albeit of a lower tier. Take out Anderson and Eng would have lost multiple series at home just these last 7 years. Take out Kumble from 90s India and we would have been reduced to the Bangladesh of that decade, it was him (and to a lesser extent Srinath) who kept our honour intact in that dark phase, not our pampered batting unit. Anderson has had some great moments in ICC events, I think he topped the charts in 2013 CT. Kumble was leading wicket taker in 1996 WC. While their overall stats in ODIs are nothing special, ICC tournament performance does push their value up IMO. So a definite edge over one format specialists like Steyn, Swann. While Andu is below Steyn overall, the gap isn't as big as some would like to imagine.

Ignored will be someone like Shaun Pollock, a legit ATG in both formats and someone who must rank among the greatest all rounders ever. Yet he hardly warrants a mention, when someone says RSA, 6-8  players are brought up before him. In my mind he is Kapil's main competitor in an AT ODI XI and in tests he belongs in the same category as the great all rounders of the 80s.

Steyn I agree, I am not saying Anderson is better than Mcgrath or Steyn which is obvious.

However for example someone like Bond gets pulled into a lot of great lists where as he hardly had 2-3 good seasons at best.

Maybe Bond is a very nitpicky example but isn’t Anderson a greater bowler than Lee,Akthar, MJ etc etc a lot of names?

Also Warne was a failure in India no one brings that up :dontknow: not saying Kumble was better than Warne but he should automatically be the 3rd option behind Warne and Murali and not some spinner who played during WW1 or 2.

Bond, Steyn, Warne, Akhtar, MJ were more impact bowlers. Lee's test record is average. Lee is an ODI great. You can see it in not just their average but also in the strike rate. Bond and Steyn have amazing strike rates. Warne had a good tour in his last tour in 2004. India was his nemesis but against SL and Pak he was exceptional. I would point it to our amazing batters when he was playing. Warne actually outperformed Kumble in test matches in Aus. He is able to extract turn where others can't. Murali is another guy overrated by his wickets tally. He was piss poor in Aus and Ind and ok in SA where SA batters were clueless against spin. Anderson doesn't have the same impact in alien conditions and his longevity is the reason why he has so many wickets. Forgoing his ODI career and picking mostly home tours and important away tours is a reason he has been able to play this far. This by no means reduces his bowling prowess as he is deadly in favorable conditions.

English pundits will call someone like Simon Jones and other random county cricketers as ATG’s so Anderson is a pretty big upgrade.

However I am talking about cricket fans who don’t seem to even consider Anderson worthy for any great fast bowlers list.

True. Whenever Anderson is discussed, Steyn's name is brought up and Anderson is dissed.  I understand Steyn's bowling catches the imagination but very condescending towards Anderson..

Anderson is not at all ignored. He is in fact given his due and always often propped up by English pundits. Kumble is ignored even in India. The man gave it his all but doesn't get his due for the fighter he was.

Agree, Anderson has always got his dues.
But Kumble for some reason, hasnt got what he deserved. Almost a 1000 wkts for him, The most successful Indian bowler, 3rd overall , one really has to scratch his head to think, as to why Kumble is not been rated that highly in India.
The only solace perhaps will be , his record will never be broken!
