Gambit Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 SRK FAILS Cricket questions hit actor for six at TV gameshow recording The smoke was not emanating from his trademark cigarette but from Shah Rukh Khan’s ears yesterday. A furious SRK stalked out of the sets of Star’s ‘Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?’ a television gameshow featuring him. Apparently a 10-year-old student sprang up and fielded a question which left the actor flummoxed. In the show, based on the international ‘Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader’ in which grade-school level questions are put to adults. Contestants are presented with the chance to win up to Rs 5 crore by answering questions taken from the syllabus of the fifth grade level or lower. Children are part of the show and are the contestant’s ‘classmates’. The show is to air on Star Plus soon. Let’s roll, guys SRK was filming at the Haji Ali studio Letsroll yesterday. All seemed well five minutes into the shoot with the parents of the kids watching intently in the audience, adult contestants and the children all eating out of SRK’s hands already. Then, a student got up and asked SRK rather insolently if he knew to which cricket writer one could attribute the quotation: ‘What do they know of cricket who only cricket know.’ SRK was taken aback. He said hesitantly, “Neville Cardus.†He was hooted down and some students who shouted, “No. It is CLR James.†A voice shouted from the back: “People who do not know their cricket should not own teams.†This referred obviously to SRK’s acquisition of the Kolkata team for the Indian Premier League (IPL). As SRK protested that he did know his cricket, other bouncers were hurled at him: “When did Graham Gooch lead a rebel tour to South Africa?†and “Which cricketer was forced to flee Zimbabwe fearing Robert Mugabe’s wrath?†SRK did not know the answers to both which were incidentally 1982 and Henry Olonga. More booing followed, with somebody shouting, “Go and dance at weddings.†In the lurch The superstar stormed out and has left the programme in the lurch refusing to return today for shooting. The buzz is that SRK has left the show for good. The actor refused to comment on the issue yesterday. Meanwhile, the student who was later identified as Amit Buch from Eklavya High School, Cuffe Parade, told MiD DAY that he was a big fan of SRK and thought he could earn some brownie points by asking questions. “I have seen all of SRK movies and one day want to enter movies. I thought this is a way to impress him. I had studied up stuff for the shooting. Comments like - Go back to dancing at parties - tells you more about Indians than SRK doesnt it? That a lot of people still consider the actors/actresses as some sort of nachnewaala-waali. Whatever SRK does is his business what gives anyone right to humiliate him publicly like this. The questions mentioned are also hardly any that would be known by most cricket fans. I mean how many serious cricket fans, including those here at ICF, know the difference between Cardus and CLR James? And how many would have any clue when Kalicharan led the Windies team to South Africa?? The irony of course is that all this "show" of Indian knowledge happened at a show that is a total rip-off of an American TV shows. Sums it up very well really.

Assume that everything desi is a downright copy. The show is being produced by the same company that developed the American show. :D

He is a good guy al though I hate his acting and movies but I still respect him as a person .. he is one of the smartest guys in Bollywood right now

As for the punks who made those comments, I'd bet this would be the shining moment of their entire lives. But, these celebrities shouldn't be surprised; it comes with the territory.

He was no 'starson' nor did he have any influences. This guy started off as a TV actor and today he is equally famous as Amitabh throughout the world. I am no SRK fan, but we have to credit the guy when it matters. Had the little kid asked the same question to any of the BCCI members, I doubt they would have known the answer to it.
youngindia Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 the "trivia disease" claims another victim :) trivia is fun but to take it as a real knowledge is misimpression given by the quizzes inthe country that work hard in collecting more and more obscure questions. even on topics i have good knowledge or familiarity in,i can be felled by a trivia question. are the rebel tours to sa or olanag earth shattering events in cricket? hardly. trivia is fun.nothing more .nothing less. the students are better off working on proper critical thinking methods, gaining knowledge from proper sources and intrepreting/analysising information to form a proper opinion/conclusion. This basic habit would help them for life in any field. after all, how many educated people spew opinions with little or no basis in facts?

Cmon rads, who teaches kids anything these days..they learn themselves You have 24/7 TV, The net and freedom Can you stop your kids from being witty to pick on a celeb like SRK, I'd say they were smart to pick on him but offcourse, the desi multi-culture of "dance in weddings' can be cruel but thats what were are made of
