Giving 17th and 18th to spinners back to back - Zampa and Chahal, is what got MI back in the game. I think people generally sometimes talk lot of shyt about captains sucking and I think they over do that at time with Kohli and Dhoni, but today Kohli actually did make this massive error. I would have bowled a seamer instead of two spinners in a row. Pollard was unstoppable and both spinners got milked and MI came back into the game. 24 balls 80 runs needed turned out to be 12 balls with not much needed. Clearly not a good move there bowling 2 overs of spin together.

what options did he have

saini n udana are only seamers he is playing and Pollard prefers seamers over pace

Chahal has had a number on pollard ...dismissing him 4 times before

WI batsman dont prefer leg spin its a known thing, they ll prefer pace any day ...

Sometimes u gotta hand it to opposition, polllard plays really well. Ideally pandya shud smash spin but wasnt the case today.

U follow what has worked but it wont work every day

Udana n Saini only had 1-1 over left, surely u cant throw dube infront of pollatd

People who know nothing about the game can only say Kohli was good captain today. It was atrocious captaincy by Kohli.Any captain would know Pollard is suspect against fast bowling.Dubey should have bowled couple of overs when there was no pressure.

Giving back to back over to spinners that too against Pollard was stupid captaincy. Kohli has not evolved in odis and t20s you need to give your weak links few overs when opppsition is under pressure. He has been captaining long enough to know these things.

You are correct as bowling spinners to Pollard was not a major issue in this game as he was dropped (or offered half-chances) 3 times:

Chahal to Pollard, FOUR runs (Pollard moves to 10)
Dropped short of long-off and sneaks through from under him. Short of a good length and wide outside off - a ball bowled expecting the batsman to step out. Pollard merely stays in the crease and uses this reach to flay this. Padikkal dives forward and to his left but there's too much to do as it dips on him

Zampa to Pollard, SIX runs (Pollard moves to 21)
Negi drops it at deep extra! His night has turned! Full ball wide outside off, slices it. He goes reverse cup as this is about head height. And he tips it behind

Zampa to Pollard, 3 runs (Pollard moves to 38)
Dropped at backward point! Chahal running backwards barely gets a finger on that. And they're back for the third which means Pollard keeps strike. Zampa slows it down, goes good length legbreak outside off. Pollard looks for the slog again and the leading edge floats over Chahal's head and his lunge to the right won't get him to it

nyways with 1-1 over left practically 19-20 was only possible , if they wud have bowled 17-18 then spinners wud have bowled 19-20

Chahal has dismissed pollard 5 times before , sometimes u gotta hand it over to opposition. Pollard was dropped but he played a stellar knock

Well observed , this is what is the job of team director n coach is. Hesson did a great job at auction and it shows, every thing is so well planned ....

This is what shastri doesnt bring , which is why we arent cashing in our resources.

Now about kohli keeping calm, that comes to test when things go haywire. No captain looses cool until they are winning

Kohli is very much like Ponting, leading by example with bat and on the field with his commitment. Tactically he will never be that great.Captaincy has not burdened as a batsman.
