Rohit has won 4 IPL’s, 1 Cl,Asia cup and Nidihaas with 2nd string teams. You are bringing up his batting (which trust me I will debate you till death but that’s not what this thread is for). That can’t be fluke

if it is happening so often, also there are different key players and management in all these tournaments with Rohit being one of the constants. So let me Put the question back to you, why do you think Rohit is not a good captain?

Its a bit of unconscious bias.  Because that Aus team was so dominating and winning so much, umpires were likely to subconsciously "agree" with them on close appeals.  On either side of the ball.

 

I had watched nearly every ball of the 2003 India-Australia test series.  Langer and Hayden were the beneficiaries of many close lbw appeals from Agarkar, Pathan etc.  Pathan on debut should have had Hayden out legbefore IMHO in his first spell.  But he was young, not super confident, and even his appeal wasn't very strong.  

 

Referees and umpires often allow Close calls go in the favor of perceived 'champions'.  Its called the "Michael Jordan" effect.  He used to get 'fouls' called on defenders sometimes even when he was the one at fault.  Because referees would presume that the defender is fouling trying to stop the 'great player'.  It doesn't even happen consciously.  

 

DRS is a great, indispensable improvement  to  the game, given the absolute subjective nature of LBW calls and how crucial they are.

Must say this is is the fairest era when it comes to cricket. Neutral umpiring, DRS with all this wonderful technology (HotSpot being military grade), clampdown on tampering/chucking/fixing. Also the over rates (one area where ICC deserves credit is enforcing over rates with penalty on failure to comply), ATG WI would bowl 70 overs/day to keep the quicks fresh (gamesmanship?)...so many matches in that era finished in draws only because 360 odd overs were bowled across 5 days despite perfect weather. And then we overrate the mythical defensive batting abilities of those batsmen, draws have to be earned in 2020. Test cricket has never been better to follow (digital media, SM, internet all have played their roles)...if they bring bat-ball balance and stop changing rules every second month even ODIs will be so much more fun.
