Lone Wolf Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 (edited) Where guys like Unadkat & Vinay Kumar are legends.. So our players barely get to face quality bowling. Kohli was talking about intent but our players lack backfoot game to tackle high class bowling. Those horizontal strokes that Tim Paine played.. Nobody in Indian XI can pull those off. Even Wade played plenty square of the wicket. So Instead we should give more credit to Young Indian players who do well in IPl & draft them in A tours rather than wasting time on domestic beasts who fail when they face quality. Players like Pant & Kishan can provide serious quality as both of them can face Pace easily & have horizontal bat strokes to succeed overseas. I am sure they won't do worse than current lot as pure batsmen even. Edited December 19, 2020 by Lone Wolf

Gollum Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Part of Indian domestic cricket should be played overseas, RSA is my preferred venue.
zen Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 (edited) I have said on various occasions that Ranji is a low quality affair. One of the reasons being 38 teams (Ind at times struggles to field 11 international quality players in a test 11 and here you have 38 teams). One only needs to see the gulf b/w many of the guys with high FC avg and their performances in tests (one should not take FC and List A avgs at face value). Some of the things that can be done to improve the domestics: a) Reduce the teams to 8 if not less (so teams can play more quality games among each other. 8 teams also means resources pulled in optimally such as access to better coaches and focus on top 120 or so cricketers) b) Allow 2 international players to play in the 11 c) Play more pink ball tests in domestics Over the years, Ranji has changed its format. It is time to do it again Edited December 19, 2020 by zen
