no need for pace bowling AR in many WI pitches. pandu's batting has gone down a lot, his fitness is iffy; his bowling is fine though

Pandu iyer and ishan all should be canned dropped for attitude alone.

He was actually quicker.

Last season he was bowling 140-149 kph while hovering around 142-143 range.

He missed Ranji due to injury, maybe still taking things slow. But he can't be considered and out n out express bowler. His ranges are from fast medium to fast.

Was this a back injury ?

A 5th pacer then .  India should not make the mistake of picking a 3rd spinner yet again.

Should take a batting all-rounder who can bowl spin.

So for odi and t20 we can field the fastest bowling attack in the world.

Mayank does look like test quality worthy to me

So potentially

Mayank

Bumrah

Akashdeep

Harshit

That is mouth watering.

I am sure trundler brigade is slitting wrists right now. They can't wait to see the 2 new young ones fail. Hopefully won't happen.

Is Siraj done, do not see anything special from him, its been a long time since Asia cup. Looks like he is not putting any effort in the bowling.

He used to be costly in IPLs and T20s but wont look like just going through the motion. At one time when Bhumrah was out due to injury he looked like Inds best white ball baller in all phases he was swinging both ways , bowling ok in middle over and high pace yorker later in the game..

Burntout, lost rhythm, injured, just not interested.....?

Looks like a case of mental burnout or hiding a niggle.

Siraj needs a break.

Yeah was only commenting on what he has bowled in this IPL so far.

Even I thought he was a bit quicker earlier

His economy rates were atrocious in whatever domestic scorecards I followed but from what I've seen , he seems to bowl fairly accurately.

Maybe just trying to focus on landing the ball for now.

Harshit Rana is someone who wants to bowl fast.

This IPL season he is finding his feet in this format and is trying variations. Not bowling flat out

He will bowl much quicker on faster pitches and the 2 longer formats.  He looked really hostile in the FC matches I have seen him bowl in.

Not sure, but he got injured in of the domestic games. His left the field after bowling 2 deliveries in an over which was later completed by Badoni.

Post that he didn't play any game, and wasn't included in Delhi Ranji Team.

I don't think it was a back injury else it would have taken longer to heal, given the way our NCA treats.

Wherever I have seen Harshit, I believe that T20 is not his stronger suit. He is more of a Test bowler who can bowl in a rhythm overs after overs on trot at pace maintaining accuracy. Just like Shami & Akashdeep he is more effective with the new ball and not at the later stages.

Maybe he is trying to adjust to the demands on T20 as well, thus bowling cutters and slower ones for variety.

Mayank & Harshit both are quite different to each other. Mayank at this moment is much more organized for white ball, while Harshit is ahead in red ball game. Mayank can bowl one change or even 2 change and can be effective, I think he even has good death bowling skills.

Harshit at this moment, not so much in death. He is still WIP.

That's good .  Harshit should be backed in the next ODI series we play.

The long term replacements for Bumrah , Shami and Ishant need to be tried out.

Kuldeep, Akashdeep , now Harshit and I think we have to invest more in Gurnoor Brar. That guy has a lot of potential

Mayank is harder to predict.  Express pacers have rarely proved to be bankers . Even the Aussies haven't found a way to do it.

On quick pitches they work,on slow pitches they struggle.

Harshit has shown remarkable composure while bowling at the death and that is a key aspect of death bowling too. Yes, he needs to improve his yorkers but his slower ones are bowled in good areas and bowled into the pitch with little change in action.

Agree...but I would still not depend on him in death. He is like Cummins in death, who often swings from good to mediocre as Cummins too don't have a yorker. Though Cummins too has mental strength and composure.

Neither are that fast .Shami is totally suited to these conditions .Bumrah is more interesting .

We have had Holding, Roberts, Marshall, Donald, Waqar, Steyn who were all express in their quickest years and ATGs. Steyn has hit 156 k, 155 k in his quickest years.

As far as Australians are concerned ...

Brett Lee averaged 23 in ODIs with 380 wickets from 221 matches.  Picked 310 test wickets at more than 4 wickets per test. Average of 30.x was more because he was used as an intimidator.

Mitchell Johnson averaged 25 in ODIs with 230+ wickets   Took 300+ test wickets at more than 4 wickets per test. Average of 28 is tad more Stuart Broad who was thought to be a banker.

Starc averages 23 in ODIs and 27.x in tests. Again 350+ test wickets. Average same as our banker Shami.

As you said, Harshit is a WIP.

The learning ability and attitude he is showing, he is likely to develop a good yorker soon. And he has Arun to guide him at KKR.

These two know how to bowl on slow pitches and that is the key.

They attack the stumps at pace and move some balls away as variation. They use bouncers only as surprise balls in India.

Not sure what you are on about. Bumrah and Shami for the most part have matched the speeds of all the bowlers I mentioned.

In the past , they bowled even quicker.

Lee was an extreme exception. And in Tests, only Waugh used him as an enforcer .

Johnson was never express throughout his career.  Not even in ODIs. He did not have a consistent action to do that until 2013.

If you watch the older ODIs. He's a lot more floaty and some of his deliveries were even in the late 130's.

You said express bowlers aren't bankable,to which I replied that they need quick pitches.
