I was hoping Shooting would come into its own this year - but we clearly need more consistent performers in it. shooting and archery have been bad in terms of return on investments. id rather money was spent on Hockey ( where we have a talent base) and wrestling/boxing/weightlifting. Inch wide mile deep. That should be the focus of our spending.
bharathh Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Shooting and archery can give you multiple medals with a few crack marks(wo)men. We need to just make our folks more consistent. Hockey can only give you 1 medal per gender.

Hockey can only give you 1 medal per gender. yea but our contingent is full of chokers… a gold medal in shooting won’t empower a new generation to take up shooting a single gold in hockey (after 40 years) has the potential to spark the same surge in interest as cricket did post 1983.. now would you rather be a dominant force in Hockey or shooting? I’d prefer Hockey. im just angry at my parents for not letting me play enough sports as a school kid in the UK. My school had a astroturf pitch.. and this is we a bog standard sarkari school so to speak.

Yes they didn't perform to expectations - but I don't remember a time when our folks were ever considered to be lock ins for medals before this Olympics. We've always had expectations from Shooting to produce a medal or two prior to this - but I don't remember ppl ever saying our guys were lock ins for medals. Manu, Saurabh etc are young. I am sure they will come back strong next time. Things will keep improving.
