nsareen Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 (edited) Dravid has been doing wonderful work in creating platform / policies for upcoming & budding cricketers from U19 to A teams to national teams, & we have seen how well the recent players have performed after joining the National setup. However the question is, the COVID impact on readiness of U16 / U19 considering there has been no tournaments played at this level. After the loss to Bangladesh in U19 world cup, one would have felt, U19 would be strengthened to achieve the CUP in the upcoming world cup, however I have not seen a single tour domestic or international, which makes me feel, the young prospects would be at a big disadvantage to other countries which are running these tournaments. Recent news from BCCI indicate the U19 / U16 domestic tournaments would be held but no announcements of tours to other countries! Will it impact in the overall grooming of cricketers for the next year / 2 years ? Edited August 23, 2021 by nsareen
ShoonyaSifar Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 Unfortunately A tours are unlikely till the time covid related restrictions are in place. The costs are way too prohibitive. Only way out is to have more Duleep Trophy/Challenger Trophy type competitions played in India - pick the 50-60 best players, split them in 4 squads and let them play against each other. Venues reporting lesser number of cases and where there are limited restriction like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Raipur, Lucknow, even Delhi can host such tournaments. prudent_kreeda Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 Very true. After a long time , i can't even name 2-3 players who will play next WC .

Exactly play short but high quality tourneys until A tours resume. Ranji Trophy is fine but those A tours were the real deal that helped in getting Int'l standard batsman & bowlers. Now suddenly batting cupboard is quite bare due to nothing happening.
rkt.india Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 U19 WC is scheduled to be held in WI next year but no preparation yet.

Someone like Sarfaraz Khan in such brilliant form in 2019-20, could have had his breakthrough year. But has missed out for last 18 months.

nsareen Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 i read somewhere BCCI has changed the policy for U19 to play for an additional year if eligible due to loss of play the previous year, never the less, BCCI should organise tours to countries like NZ where COVID cases are less and the youngsters get a chance to play in alien conditions, for that matter WI would be exciting if the world cup is going to be in WI.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nsareen Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 Any idea when is the next U19 world cup, if it’s in Jan 2022 there isn’t much time left for tours after the domestic season in nov / dec… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
