The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered an FIR against conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar for allegedly duping the spouses of the former promoters of Ranbaxy, Malvinder Singh and Shivinder Singh, of Rs 200 crore besides ongoing investigations against him in several cases across the country.

Chandrasekhar is believed to have pulled off the scam whilst being behind bars in Delhi’s Rohini jail, with help of accomplice actor Leena Maria Paul, who starred in the 2013 movie 'Madras Cafe'. The details of the alleged crime came out when Paul along with Bollywood actress Jaqueline Fernandes were questioned by the police in the case. It is being reported that Fernandes is one of the victims of Chandrasekar.

The Chennai-based accused is believed to have swindled several high profile politicians and businessmen over the past few years. Reports say he bought a lavish bungalow in Chennai with Rs 200 crore skimmed from his latest victims —wives of Ranbaxy brothers. The bungalow is full of luxury furnishings and hosts top of the line luxury sports cars including a Mercedes Benz 300 SLR, apparently from the Mille Miglia race of 1955, according to Times Now's earlier report.

The ED in its raid also seized goods worth Rs 20 crore including shoes, bags and clothes from high-end brands such as Ferragamo, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Versace, according to reports. The couple also owns swanky cars including Rolls Royce Ghost, a Bentley Bentayga, a Ferrari 456 Italia, one Lamborghini Urus, an Escalade, and a Mercedes AMG 63.

Delhi Police’s EOW registered a complaint of Aditi S Singh, the wife of Shivinder Singh alleging that she was duped of Rs 200 crore on the pretext of securing bail for her husband by a called who claimed to be an officer from the Union Ministry of Law.

EOW Additional Commissioner RK Singh said, "The Delhi Police Special Cell received a complaint from Aditi Singh on August 7 in which she mentioned that she received a call in June 2020, on her mobile phone and in which the caller introduced himself as a senior officer in Ministry of Law and proposed to help her in securing bail for her husband."

There are over 23 cheating cases against Chandrasekhar and Leena Paul across the country.
