Openers in SA vs SA post SA readmission

Interesting thing is few of them are left handers..  This can be a coincidence. But they have better averages.  Strauss/Warner/Hughes/Hayden/Gayle/Cook/Tresochik/ Katich/Toffee Kumar/Gambhir. They have all done okay. Infact Gauti has the highest average by an opener from India in SA. 3 fifties in 4 innings.   Sanga made 98 when he opened the innings. Ofcourse there are exceptions. Still it is an interesting point to note. How valuable it is to have a left hander as opener. Rory burns averages 46.50 in one test.

Its not that straightforward to compare averages and think one has done better than the other. For instance, the conditions in current tour are probably the most bowler friendly I have seen compared to previous tours of SA.

My theory is Steyn was one of the finest outswing bowler ever. That effect gets lessened when he is up against a left hander. Infact most of the South African right handers take the ball away from right handers.
