They competed well in WT20. Even in recent T20 series they gave good fight to Australia despite losing Hasaranga mid way due to Covid. Australia barely managed to score above 150-160 vs their bowling. They were robbed off a game in 2nd T20 by Umpire. Won the 5th. So they are not horrible by any means especially their bowling. Exactly. That's why I m wondering why our selectors decided to go back to TTFs like Samson. He did not last more than 10 balls in any of the 3 t20s against SL last year. Maybe he won't get into the playing 11, but still there is no purpose of picking a proven failure.

Samson is actually good against pace & considering T20 WC in Australia not a bad option. With Kishan struggling & Pant being rested they needed a reserve wk batsman so Samson is good option. He is okay against finger spin from what I have seen but tends to struggle against wrist spin. Shreyas Iyer type problem against quick wrist spin. Ankit_sharma03 and Frustrated 2

Samson has higher ceiling but he is mentally not even 10% of what Iyer is. Iyer has issues but still in my view best back up middle order bat in India right now & there is dearth of them right now. Sanju is competing with Kishan here I think. Both have some issues. Edited February 21, 2022 by Lone Wolf Frustrated 1

They all can play as pure batsman if needed

Look a pissant like Rahul with the please don't hurt me look on his face. I think Samson is actually quite mentally strong. He is just inconsistent with his shot making ability. Frustrated Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 I remember in all T20s vs SL last year, Samson looked very nervous & confused while facing Hasaranga. As if he had never faced spinners before. Reflected in the result too. Hasaranga dismissed him cheaply in his 1st over in 2 out of 3 matches. Lone Wolf 1

Samson was looking fish out if water in freakin Sri lanka of all places. Never seen something like that with Iyer. His confidence & body language is his plus point. That's why he has been far more successful at Int'l level. Same age group as Samson too. Vijy 1

I mean he had resigned to his fate as he gave up almost after not picking him 3-4 times earlier in that same over. He needs to improve massively in that aspect. He has talent no doubt but get tougher mentally as well. Frustrated 1
