zen
Both films use the white savior trope to full effect where the lead character eventually ends up on the side of those he is supposed to fight against. In DWW, John Dunbar interacts with the natives on the western frontier. In LTS, Nathan Algren, gets to understand the way of the Samurai. Which one is the better film? Which one is your favorite? ravishingravi
No Brainer. Dances with wolves. Apart from being more complete and ambitious film, stunning cinematography. Costner should have directed more
coffee_rules
Did you mean Last of the Mohicans? They are somewhat similar. Last Samurai also has army leader switching sides, but O don’t remember much. It was touted to be an Oscar vehicle for Tom Cruise, but he didn’t. I have watched DWTW about 10 years ago, felt it was overrated to win all the awards

Vijy
as you wrote, both are white savior stuff, so I take them with some salt... but of the two I like "dances with wolves" more
